    Traditional M/L Guns from Afghanistan

REF: Post #78 Hi Rudyard. Great story. You've lived a life few of us could have imagined. LOL I have 4 Jazails in my collection. All 4 have genuine EIC regulation locks. But from 4 different makers. Still, they are all built similar. Congratulations for owning the 4-volumn set of books...

    Ottoman Guns

Yes, that lock should work. Maybe tackle the barrel first, as time and budget permit. What's good is that your lock, stock, and barrel are all here in the States. So, any required work beyond your expertise can be done locally, with shipping within the USA. Even your stock blank can have the...

    Traditional M/L Guns from Afghanistan

Cyten: Thanks for the photos. A very nice example. Note, in this case, we have a decorated barrel mounted to a basically plain, undecorated stock. That could indicate an earlier barrel repurposed for this Jazail. Would not be unusual for these guns. Rick

    eBay Flintlock Lock

LOL. Hey thanks. Maybe my memory is not completely gone yet. LOL I remember those locks did require frizzen hardening. I also seem to remember that sometime in maybe the early/mid 1970's that DGW's offered a complete replacement lock for the Minuteman flint version. Rick

    eBay Flintlock Lock

The tapered frizzen reminds me of some old contemporary lock. But can't put my finger on it. Hmmmm. Could this be a lock from the old H&A Minuteman rifles from the 1960's/70's ? Rick

    Ottoman Guns

Hi Cyten BARREL: That barrel does indeed look crusty. But, as you mentioned, electrolysis can do wonders. Another option I've used in the past is glass bead blasting (not sand blasting). GBB can be set to different power levels, allowing the rust to be removed without destroying the...

    Ottoman Guns

WOW!!! Nice Ottoman/Turkish lock. Congratulations !!! Good thing you gave us all a heads-up. I would have bid on it. LOL The barrel, at first glance appears do-able. The outside looks like just light surface rust. That should easily clean up with regular gun oil and 0000 steel wool. The...

    Ottoman Guns

Thanks for posting. The accessories do not look all that different than the European ones for the same time period. I've seen these Ottoman style shoulder guns with both wood and iron ramrods. About 50/50. Rick

    To my Pre-Flintlock Friends >>>

I am so sorry to hear this. DARN. It sounds like Old Guard got cold feet. But if so, why not just say so earlier on ? Really strange. This sounds like it would have been a good opportunity for Old Guard to increase it's sales in the U.S. Not only for the wheellocks, but for their other...

Are Some BP Revolvers Just Not Reasonably Accurate?

I have three C&B revolvers. 2-60' Armies and 1-51 Navy. On each one I did three things: 1. A 3-lb. trigger pull. 2 An 11-degree cut on the forcing cone. 3. A taller front sight. After that, the pistols would shoot where you point them. Rick

Unusual charger on a leather covered powder flask

Thanks PFC. You may be right. That makes sense. Also, the cut-off lever on mine is loose. The internal spring likely broken. Rick

    Traditional M/L Guns from India

OK. Thanks. Most of the percussion Sindh shoulder guns I've seen have rifled barrels. But an occasional smooth bore shows up every once in a while. And they usually show up in smaller calibers like about .36-.45 They often have cool looking barrels. Anyway, it was neat to watch your buddy...

    Muzzleloading Quiz

Hi Cyten That Ottoman/Turkish example is so cool. Looks really old. Somehow, I can picture that being carried by an early Janissary type outfitted in armour. LOL Thanks for the posts. Rick

    Traditional M/L Guns from India

The Indian Toradors and Sindh origin guns with flintlocks are considered rare among collectors. In the case of the Sindh guns it seems they jumped from matchlock to percussion, and skipped the flintlock period. LOL Like Japan. Rick

    Traditional M/L Guns from India

Hi Cyten Yes, those Alberta videos are great fun. I was fortunate to have been able to visit with Pukka one time while I was in Alberta on business. We had lunch together. Didn't get much time as it was his busy time of the year and I had to travel back to St. Louis. I could have talked to...

    Traditional M/L Guns from India

Hi Mr. T Good job. Regular gun oil and 0000 steel wool often does wonders for old iron. The barrel bands may be old leather or rattan. That would also be common. Brass and iron were also used. Maybe one day you will decide to make a shooter with it. LOL From the photos you provided, it...

Unusual charger on a leather covered powder flask

Hello ALL. As long as we are on this subject, here is a horn flask I have. I still cannot totally figure the spout on this one. It's obvious the spout can be threaded up or down for different charges of powder. But there is no way to know how many grains are in the spout for each turn of the...

What gun for early 1700's Virginia.

Great collection. I think these early/transitional style guns are so interesting. Rick

What gun for early 1700's Virginia.

Thanks Dave for that bit of history. Very interesting. And thanks for the compliment. I've always thought that gun I posted above "did" fit in a half-century or so period. Very transitional so to say. Rick
