    Alliant Black

I have several pounds of Alliant MZ Powder but can find very little info on it. The Alliant site says it is discontinued. There is no mention of ffg or fffg. The factory site says: "Our experience through testing and hunting has been that best results are attained in the 50 caliber...

    Back Lock Photos

Thank you all. I had been thinking about getting another spring and leaving the lower leg longer so it would push on the sear much closer to the pivot. Have the spring contact the sear around the point of the arrow. After looking at the above photos, using another spring would not be hard either.

    Back Lock Photos

I have a swivel breech that I think may be a Hopkins and Allen. The hammer doesn't drop with enough force to reliably fire a cap. One V spring works as both a main spring and a sear spring. I am concerned that if I install a spring that is stiff enough to fire the cap, the trigger pull will be...

    Small caliber twist rate?

Thanks to all. I knew 1:60 to 1:72 for the large bores but I would like to start shooting "Squirrel Gun" matches and am looking for an appropriate rifle. I was not sure about the smaller caliber rate.

    Small caliber twist rate?

What would be considered a slow twist in a .36 or .40 caliber rifle? Looking for a good twist for a patched ball. Thanks

My sons first weekend with flinter

I wear safety glasses with corrective lenses almost all the time. For hunting, I wear earmuffs that have amplification as well as a noise limiter. I can hear much more of what is going on around me than I can without the extra amplification.

Well it happened, broke my first ramrod.......

I have made brass ramrods from tubing I got at Ace. 2 sizes of tubing that fit tightly inside each other, solder a cleaning jag on one end and a piece of a brass rod inside the tube on the other end, then tap the rod for 10x32.

    Slings for flintlock

I don't have any pictures to back up my opinion, but I would think having a rifle on a sling if you needed both hands for a chore would be way preferable to have it on the ground or leaning against something. I don't know how many here are farm boys here, but harnessing a horse, milking a cow...
