    Rabbit Kits!

My dog used to catch baby jackrabbits quite often and I would just let them go. She once brought home a full grown cottontail and I killed that and ate it, and one time she caught a quail and proudly carried it in her mouth when she walked down to the mailbox with me, a quarter mile each way.

    ROA Question

I had that same problem with my ROA. It had a little ridge at the front of the chamber. I removed the ridge with a metallic case champhering tool.

Can only "seat" caps by pulling the trigger. Suggestions?

The caps are obviously not seating, but the nipples on a new gun would not be mushroomed. I would tend to believe that the nipples are too wide at the base of the cone (muzzle end of the nipple). With the cylinder in the gun, try putting a cap on the nipple and push it on real hard, then try to...

How do you pronounce conical? Is it cone-ical or kahn-ical? Thank you.

Where to find real black powder

The muzzleloading club in Reno is Lakes Crossing Muzzleloaders. Get in touch with them and I'm sure someone will have some available or be willing to split a case (25 pounds).

    Are you diabetec?

And do you cut your patches at the muzzle? I bought some pillow ticking at Wally World and cut it into strips then rolled up the strips and put them in the containers my test strips come in. Anybody else got a good use for those containers? You sure end up with a lot of them in a short time.

GPR Headin' to the Range - Any Hints?

I just pulled the trigger assembly out of my GPR and took the whole trigger assembly to the hardware store. Found a screw that fit, no problem.

    GPR kits

I noticed tonight that Natchez and Midsouth don't list the GPR kits anymore. Anyone know why? Are they both waiting to get a new shipment in? Did Lyman drop the kits? Did N and M just discontinue the kits?

    1858 Loading Stand

Also it helps to wet your finger and wipe it over the front of the chamber after dumping the powder but before placing the ball on the chamber mouth.

    Sizing caps for revolver

A lot of people believe that the reason for chain fires is not the flame getting past the grease and ball to ignite the powder from the front, but the flame travelling through the nipple and underneath a loose fitting cap to ignite the powder from the rear. Use properly fitting caps.

    pistol loading stand

When I made mine (for a revolver) a few years ago I also drilled six depressions in it to hold roundballs.

Alternative practice balls...the question now is: Why Wait ??

The rubber balls are great. I shoot them at a steel plate and if I can load a new powder charge quick enough and get the muzzle pointed down range quick enough the ball goes back down the barrel and I can shoot it again. Sorta like those paddles with a rubber band and ball. :haha:

    Muzzle protectors/guides

I went to Walmart and bought a set of four plastic funnels in the houseware section for about a dollar. I cut the spout off the one that fit the ramrod and use the spout for a muzzle protecter.

    Stuck ramrod

Thank you everyone for your responses. The patch was from an old t-shirt. I was thinking today that it was a TC cotton patch, but I realized just now that I would have used the t-shirt to wipe the bore. The ramrod was synthetic so it survived in good condition.

    Stuck ramrod

Got to the range today and the first thing I did was run a dry patch down the bore. Yes, down not back up. I capped the nipple and fired the cap. Still stuck. I pulled the nipple, dribbled a little powder in there, replaced the nipple and tried again. Cap fired, powder didn't ignite. After a few...

    Sorting round balls

I was casting round balls this morning and using two moulds, one .457 and one .490. After I was through I had to sort them, but they both looked very similar. I took a small plastic card with holes in it for sizing drill bits and found a hole that the .457 would fall through but the .490 would...

    CVA Frontier Rifle?

If you decide you don't want to mess with it, I could probably be talked into taking it. I don't know if my CVA is the Frontier or not but it's light compared to my GPR, accurate and not for sale. Build it, shoot it, and you'll be telling people it's not for sale.

Finish for Stock, Barrel of Lyman Great Plains Kit

Question number four was "Any reason not to buy the pre-assembled gun and just brown the barrell?" This was answered for me the first time someone at the range saw my kit-built GPR and asked "You built that?"

    Lyman GPR Set Trigger Adjustment

Since my GPR was in kit form it was easy enough to just take the whole trigger assembly to the hardware store and find a longer screw.
