    February 2022 Postal Match

Good question. It appears there is some confusion on this post. This original post was for the February 2022 shoot. I don't see that the February 2024 targets have been posted yet.

    October Postal Match target

I acquired a .32 Green Mountain drop in barrel for the Thompson Center Hawken this week. So I decided to see how she shoots today. After shooting 10 rounds at another target so I could get a feel for how she shoots, I decided to post the monthly target and give it a go. I decided to keep the...

    October Postal Match target

A glorious day to burn powder in central Wyoming! But of course; what day isn't? Shooting with a cross wind of 8 - 15 mph from the West, my left, I was shooting my Lyman Great Plains .50 w/ 1: 66 twist - Off Hand. Load: 40gr Triple 7 2f, .015 patch lubed with moose milk, .495 Hornady round...

SOLD TC Hawkens with 50 caliber 1:66 twist Green Mountain barrel

The rifling groove depth on many of the TC barrels is very shallow - like .004 - .005, I believe. The Green Mountain barrels are closer to .012. Additionally, the GM barrels are 32" long vs. TC's 28". I found that the GM barrels are more consistent shot placement when other factors are the same.

September 2023 Postal Match Target - Let's Go Bowling!

I figured 10 shots at one target is plenty. Two that I would consider flyers. Maybe because they were Hornady balls? Probably because I dropped too soon rather than following through with my hold. I forgot to write on the target that it was 40 - 45 grains of powder. Great target this month! I...

Removing the barrel on a hooked breech rifle for cleaning, yes or no??

No, there is no need to remove the barrel just for cleaning after shooting. My guns are cleaned in the field long before returning home. I used to do the bucket & water method for years. Then several years ago I found an easy, quick and very effective method. Needless to say, I enjoy going...
