How do you stabilise your rifle for load testing/sighting in?

Sighting in and load testing are different tasks with different requirements. When load testing, I want the most stability/repeatability as I can get. Front and rear rests, good comfortable position at the bench. Once I determine the best, most accurate and repeatable load, I then move to...

    Is FFFG the Cause

Primary culprit is likely your patch thickness/ball diameter combination, or lube. All three have to work together. If accuracy is good, the fraying patches are not a HUGE concern. The correct combination will likely pull that flyer into the group. ADK Bigfoot

    HSM/Black Hills Ammo

Oh contraire, mon ami. Some do care. I choose this site because it caters to the things I am interested in. When I go to a pre-1840 rendezvous, I choose to not be immersed in Trap Doors, cartridge guns, gas lights, cell phones, and other "modern" stuff. It's a choice of the environment I...

How many of you dry your revolver in the oven?

Clean with hot soapy water. Rinse with boiling water. Spray off water with compressor or hair dryer. Spray with WD40. Spray off excess WD40 with compressor or hair dryer. (used to use canned air, but it cools the metal, and I want it hot.) Reassemble, wipe, put away till next time. ADK...

    Weighing round balls

My home cast round balls are always more consistent in roundness and weight than swaged factory balls. I cast 100 .440 round balls from a Lyman 4-cavity gang mold yesterday. I ran five pours (20 balls) that were immediately returned to the pot. Then I ran the 100 I needed. I discarded twelve...

    Advice for N-SSA carbine

I shot the Parker Hale Musketoon and the Smith Carbine while skirmishing in the N-SSA. The Smith wins for speed, but the Parker Hale wins for accuracy. And only hits count. If you can shoot two extra rounds in three minutes, but you miss two of them, you have lost the speed advantage of the...
