    Short Arbor

Helo, this is a follow up on a problem I was having with my Pietta1860 about a year ago, maybe more. It turned out that my arbor was short or the hole was drilled to deep, this was causing me to ruin wedge pins like they were disposable, beating them and even caused a couple to bend. Some one...

    Filler over powder

Hello, I took my Pietta 1860 shooting today and tried a combination of ways of loading, I found placing 25 grains of powder in the chamber topped with corn filler, a wonder wad and a 454 ball worked best. I also tried a lube I bought on line made with lambs tallow and bees wax, I found it...

    hooked or button breach

Hello everyone, I have been wondering lately about CVA'S button breach, how it stacks up with to the hooked breach. I've noticed that other manufactures have used the hooked breach instead of the button breach, was the button type just not dependable or strong as the hook? Opinions please! MG

    powder grain

Wondering it there's a simple and safe way I could change the granulation of 1f powder to 2 or 3f powder. A friend gave me a pound of 1f swiss, I'm shooting it out of my 50 cal CVA Hawken and the accuracy isn't too good. I would like to see if a smaller grain would perform better.

    Birchwood casey brass black

Hello everyone, today I tried out Birchwood Casey's brass black and was very happy with the way my brass turned out. It has a bronze color that really looks great on my CVA Hawken, my stock is a medium walnut so it contrasts just right together. My question is how to make it last, does anyone...

    Front sights on old muzzleloaders

Just wondering what everyone's opinions were as to why front sights were so small on those rifles made a couple hundred years ago. Some of the old rifles I have looked at, had front sights so small they seem like they would be unusable, however unfortunately I have not been able to look down...

How to stain a hemp belt.

Hello again. A while back I asked for suggestions which would make a better belt to put on a possibles bag I was making. All were good suggestions and I appreciate everyone's comments, in the end I settled for the leather belt. After several months I decided it was uncomfortable and ordered a...

wedge problems on pietta colt army

Hi guys, I'm having problems again with my wedge backing out of the slot with every shot. This has been an ongoing problem for this particular gun, I keep tapping it in and it keeps backing out. I was thinking of putting an arch in the shape of the wedge so as to maybe put down ward pressure...

Helo friends, I was wondering if someone could direct me to a good source for pietta 1860 parts, I've been to ebay and found all the sellers think there selling gold. Thanks for any help you can give. :idunno:

    cleaning percussion nipples

Hello everyone, I'm looking for suggestions for some kind of cleaner that will strip the crud out of percussion nipples with out having to scrub so much. Dish soap works to a point but still requires a lot of scrubbing. Thanks!

    Beat up my 1860 Pietta

 I went to the range today with my 1860 Pietta, I was shooting 454 lead round balls with a charge of 30 grains of Pyrodex wrapped in a paper cartridge. I noticed after a few shots the wedge started backing up, not much but the tip was backed up into the notch. I didn't think much of...

    opinion on 1- f powder

Hello gents I thought I might ask your opinion on shooting 1 - f bp in my hawken, I have a small amount of it left over from 13 years ago, I'm sure it's still good because it's been in a sealed can. It's quite corse compared to 2 or 3f, or should I try to crush it down to a smaller size.

a longer barrel for my CVA

Hello all, I'm seriously pondering swapping out my St Louis 28" barrel for a mountain rifle 32" barrel, no logical purpose I just would like a longer barrel on it. I have been thinking about this for many years now and have found a barrel at a resonable price, so it seemed this would be a good...

    double stacking

:headslap: I was shooting at the range yesterday and when I ran down my last load down it stopped above the breach. I didn't remember sending one down before it but I can't sware to it either, all efforts to push it down got no where so I chose to stop and error on the side of safety. My...

    leather thickness for possibles bag

What thickness of leather do you think would be best for making a possibles bag? I purchased a two oz piece of leather to make my first bag from scratch but I'm beginning to question if it's too thin. :hmm:

    doubles

Just was thinking of early ammerican double barrel muzzleloaders wondering to my self why it seems they weren't more popular then single shot rifles back in the day, you think it may have been because they were heavier or was it cost? :hmm:

    loading block

It's not exactly what I would call a speed loader but I'm going to the range tomorrow and trying out my new loading block. If it turns out to be a pain to use I'll probably just set it aside and go back to loading with out.
