Becoming a Paper Cartridges Youtube addict

Yes, I agree. I went into his store in Gettysburg, last year. He was very welcoming and loved showing me Mr. Pritchett's military commission (of Pritchett Enfield Bullet fame) that he has framed on one of his walls. I particularly love the video he has where he dispels the myth of smoothbore...

    Muzzleloader No Longer On Newstands

I will definitely subscribe. I probably have 50-60 issues stacked up with certain articles flagged with "post it" notes because they are such a good reference. Isn't there a publication called "Tomahawk and Longrifle"?. I think I remember seeing it mentioned, but I have never seen one in person.

    Lyman Great Plains rifle

Got my GPR .50 percussion back in "05 from Midsouth Shooters Supply. You could get them then for $350.00. Glad I did. My wife got me the GPR .50 plains pistol to match, as a Christmas gift a few years later. They've been a great combo.

    My Enfield Rifle

This is my old Euroarms 1853 Patten Enfield. This was purchased around the year 2000. That was when you could get a quality Italian repro WITH matching bayonet for $350.00 from Dixie Gun Works. Oh, what a shining time! Of course, I guess its all relative. Back then, I was a rookie cop...

    Pedersoli 1816 musket

My experience with Pedersoli smoothbores is that they run small for the caliber that they are supposed to be. With my .75 Bess, I had to downsize to a .71 ball to use with paper cartridges. With my .69 Charleville, I get the best results with a .64 ball. I would say measure your bore and give...

    X-ray of a drowned Bess

The last time that I was at this museum in St. Augustine, about 2 years ago, I asked specifically about this musket and was told that all the coral and sea encrustation was still being carefully removed so that it could then be displayed. I, too, would want to know the status of this piece.

Bess vs charley, what’s your favorite

I am happy to say that I have no ignition issues. I, too, prick my vent hole after ever third round, just as a preventive measure, but I think that would be normal. I keep a wisk and vent pick hanging on a little chain attached to a button on my clothing. Just a quick "poke" and back in...

Bess vs charley, what’s your favorite

I own Pedersoli repros of both of them and love shooting both of them, but if I had to choose one, it would be my Bess. It just feels better in my hands.

    Across the Wide Missouri

I was gettin' ready for work this morning and I put the TV on the "Grit" channel to see what old western was on. The first image that I saw was of Clark Gable wearing buck skins while running a patch through the bore of some sort of muzzle loading plains/Hawken type of rifle. He appeared to be...

    Bullet mold

Without more information, it looks good to me. The chambers seem nice and clean, with one for a round ball and one for a conical. What caliber is it?

    Hey Y’all from Georgia!

    Welcome from Columbus, GA.

    Is there such a thing?

I happened upon one on “Lodgewood”. Old Dixie Gunworks .32 conical scissors mold. Snatched it up, They can be hard to find.

Columbus, GA, Here. I shoot at the Muscogee Longrifles Club just up the road in Harris County. It's only 12 miles from my house. I have been shootin' there for about 25 years and could not be happier. I enjoy "dressing out" and shootin' military muskets/rifles.

    Repro 1849 Revolver

I’m considering getting a repro 1849 revolver. Would a .319 ball mold be sufficient?

    New Pietta 1851 Colt Navy

Actually, I have been using 2f only because I have no 3f at the moment. It turns out that it works so well, I have no plans to get any 3f. I shoot my large bore Rev war and Civil war muskets/rifle so much, I always keep a large supply of 2f on hand. I haven't chronographed any loads or...

    New Pietta 1851 Colt Navy

That is good to hear. I've got an 1851 London Navy by Pietta, myself. It is a tack driver with 15 grains of 2f behind a fiber wonder wad and a .375 round ball. I have a Lee mold and have cast some conicals for it, but have not tried them out, yet. Can't wait to be able to retire. This work...

    Grizzly Adams

In 1978, I wouldn't have missed it for the world. Saturday evening, in front of that tv that I actually had to walk up to and put my hand on a dial to change the channel, being careful not to disturb the "rabbit ears" on top. That and Mutual of Omaha's Wild Kingdom.

    Charleville

I have both a Pedersoli 2nd Model Brown Bess and a Pedersoli 1766 Charleville. They are both excellent muskets that shoot well and clean up easily with water and cotton cloth. The only thing that I did not expect was the size of the bore for my Charleville. It is supposed to be .69. It must...

    New Book on Musket Cartridges

From "The Horse Soldier" store in Gettysburg, I ordered a book called "Development of the Paper-Wrapped Musket Cartridge in Colonial America 1640-1841". It was an excellent value at only $15.00 and has a wealth of knowledge on small arms ordnance in Colonial America. There are many quality...

    .36 cartridge former

Mine just arrived last week from Hungary. Took a month to "cross the pond". I ordered both the .36 and .44 former along with an arsenal bundle stamp for .58 rifle cartrides. They look good, just have not had time to try to make cartridges, yet.
