How about a branch for a hawk block?

If this is a branch, how big was the tree? :shocked2:

    Family ML

Sorry, it's not happening. I finally got a chance to look at it last night. There aren't any screws holding the lock plates on, it looks like they are held on by hammered pins or rivets. Interesting. Here is a pic show the pins, which match up on the other side. 20180731_180535[1] by...

Are you talking about the plate the hammer is mounted to? If so, I'll look at the screws and see if they can be removed. 100+ years have made some of the screws non-working.

    Family ML

I found a few more markings under the barrels, that might hopefully give more clues to the date/make of this ML. Would the "27" be the year? 1827? 20180811_195631 by Mike Harney, on Flickr[/img] 20180811_195719 by Mike Harney, on Flickr[/img]

    Family ML

The story from my aunt, is it was "brought over or bought" with/by my Great-Great Grandfather. I'm 47, my dad is 70. I'm not sure when my G-pa was born (maybe 1910-ish), without digging up some paperwork. So definitely 1870's, if not older, assuming my aunt is right (she's been known to...

    Family ML

Here is a Dbl barrel ML that has been in my family for 5+ generations. If you can tell any more info on date/country of origin, that would be great. I do know it is a twist steel barrel. 20180731_180157[1] by Mike, on Flickr Top: 20180731_180544 TOP by Mike, on Flickr Side...

Here are some pix of my shotgun. If anyone can give name, year or any other info, that would be great. How do you add pictures? I'm on my phone, if that makes a difference.

    How much shot

I'm mainly shooting paper with this gun. It is a gun that has been in my family for a while, I'm the 5th generation for this shotgun, that we just shoot for fun.

    How much shot

I have a dbl barrel and was wondering if there is a rule of thumb as to how much shot to use. It is a 12 ga and one barrel looks to be a tighter choke than the other.

    slob hunters tick me off!!!!!

Stumpkiller, If you can stand the smell/mess, go thru the bags from time to time. If they are inconsiderate enough to throw their trash out like that, they might be dumb enough to throw away mail or other material with their name and address. The law will probably take it from there. Mike

    cleanin patches

I used the 3" rnd cleaning patches with my Knight 50 and I have gotten them stuck on at least two separate attempts. Once so tight I had to remove the breech plug and drive with out w/a mallet. My first thought was the patch was too big/thick. But it only happen on 2 of the many attempts...

    Lyman Trade Rifle

I have the Lyman Trade rifle in 54 perc and I use 777 FFF. The only problem I had was I tamped the powder then added the PRB and it wouldn't ignite. I had to remove the nipple and pour some powder in to ignite it. Chalk that up to operator head space. Other then that, it shoots great. Mike
