    Little Blunderbuss

Had this Blunderbuss for a while now and have always wondered why the trigger guard was a different colour to the rest of the brass on the gun?

    Ottoman pistol markings

Anyone shed any light on these markings on an Ottoman Kurbur type pistol. I'm thinking maker marks.

    Antique Fair Pistol

I think age is approx 1796-1830. It's very similar to the English New Land Pattern pistol, maybe private purchase gun? I'll do some butt pictures..... I'm assuming that the GR stamp would make it pre 1830?

    Antique Fair Pistol

Well, after some research, I decided to go down the electrolysis route. I filled a plastic tub with water and soda crystals, made a couple of anodes and immersed the complete gun, connecting the lock to the negative side of a 12v battery charger and linked the anodes to the positive side...

Interesting find at the weekend at a local Antiques fair; relic early 19thC New Land Pattern style flintlock pistol. A sympathetic restoration should suffice!

    Danish 1772 pattern pistol.

Yes, the slash would appear to be part of the font, same as an on earlier pistol I have.

    Danish 1772 pattern pistol.

Picked up this large Danish 1772(?) model pistol. It's a fair size, weighing in at 3lb 6oz. Overall length is 20 1/2" with a 13" barrell. Bore is around 5/8ths. Regimental markings on the barrell look to read J C N 28.

    Very Long Ottoman Pistol

Todays find, late 18thC. European pistol, made for the Ottoman/Turkish market, Lock by Wilson of England, with an early type of waterproof pan. Approx 5/8" bore, 15 3/4" barrel!!

    Blunderbuss identification

Pop the lock off and do some photos so we can see how well the lock has been made, also a photo of the left side of the gun would be good. If you're feeling competent, remove the barrel and see if there are any proof markings. Nice looking piece that's had a busy life!

The action seems to function quite well

    What's this Remington???

Another suggestion from a retired Firearms dealer friend, is that it is a period Belgian/German copy; apparently, it's not unusual to find copies of U.S revolvers that were made in Europe, even with U.S manufacturers markings!

From a dealer at a Militaria Fair in the UK.
