Rate kits on difficulty: TVM, Chambers, Kibler, Pecatonica...

As another responder to your post said, the Kibler rifles are really the only true kits, other than the mass produced ones from Pedersoli, Lyman, Traditions, etc. The other "kits" like Track, Pecatonica, TVM, Tip Curtis, Chambers, Muzzle Loaders Builders Supply, Dunlap, etc. are actually parts...

Rate kits on difficulty: TVM, Chambers, Kibler, Pecatonica...

Here are some things to consider. 1.) How much you want the gun to be historically accurate; Chambers and Kibler kits are pretty historically accurate. Not so much the case with Track and Pecatonica. TVM really doesn't come very close to the correct architecture for most schools. If you...

New Gun Problem ... Help please

You're right. If there is a lot of wood to be removed, use a rasp of the appropriate coarseness. If you are removing a lesser amount of wood or shaping something, try a sharp scraper. A scraper can be homemade easily and inexpensively, and if kept sharp will remove wood quite expeditiously...

Parker 12 guage muzzle loader shotgun

Spence, Is that Navy Arms shotgun you mentioned, perhaps the one they called the "Magnum"? I had one of those in the late 70's that was choked Imp Cyl and Modified as best as I can recall. It was the best pointing and shooting ML shotgun I ever handled; shot many pheasants with it. I've had...

    TC vs L&R rpl lock

As Eric said, TC's are not cookie cutter copies. I think this is quite possibly a result of changes made over the long production run. I've worked on many TC's for people over the years and have seen this a lot. A gentleman recently obtained, via an estate sale, a pristine, untouched TC...

    what barrel to buy

I agree with Fred completely on his recommendation of barrel and lock.

    pedersoli sxs

Yes, if your gun patterns better with no cushion wad (some do and some don't) it's the obvious way to go. But it ignores the fact that there is no one solution fits all approach to shooting muzzle loaders. Shooters use what works best for them. If this works for you, go for it. I don't see...

    pedersoli sxs

12 gauge card wads, over powder and over shot, work fine in either barrel. But for those that use fiber cushion wads, the 13 gauge wads go down the barrel past the tighter chokes much easier. Whatever floats your boat, mate.

    pedersoli sxs

I've got a 12 gauge Pedersoli with fixed chokes of about Improved Cylinder and Full. It loads and shoots very well if I use 13 gauge wads in the full choke barrel and 12 gauge wads in the improved cylinder barrel. A bit of a bother to carry both sizes into the field, but worth the improvement...
