Friends, our 2nd Amendment rights are always under attack and the NRA has been a constant for decades in helping fight that fight.
We have partnered with the NRA to offer you a discount on membership and Muzzleloading Forum gets a small percentage too of each membership, so you are supporting both the NRA and us.
I've always liked the New Englanders. I have Friday off so hopefully I can get some rounds downrange. I have to go to the local fun store and pick up some shot and wads this being my first BP shotgun. My barrel has screw in chokes so I'm taking it in to see what will fit. Grouse is open here as...
A few years ago I had mentioned to an elderly friend of mine that I was looking for a New Englander combo. Last week when I was over visiting he puled out a T/C combo and said that it was mine if I wanted it. Pay me later what you think it's worth. I want to give him a fair price for it. the...
Have killed game with both PRB and maxi-balls. PRB's do just fine with well placed shots within a reasonable range. I prefer maxi-balls if I am hunting elk larger than a spike. (lots of spike only units here in M/L season). For cows, bulls and black bear it's maxi-balls only for me.
[ "Every deer I ever shot from a tree I felt like it was cheating."
Different tactics for different situations. To each their own. BTW, if it felt like cheating for you to use a tree stand, you should have probably quit using tree stands after the first deer.
Have the same issue with one of my Renegades. I have setttled on a .012 patch and .530 ball. It's still a bit snug to start but It loads easy enough, I don't get burned through patches, and It shoots great with 70 gr 3F or 85 gr. 2F. If I use a .015 ticking patch it gets cut by the rifling.
I'm also the camp cook most of the time. If somebody else is cooking and it looks sketchy, I fix my own claiming a "restricted diet"..... while not a complete untruth, it definatly strays into the grey area.
If I have to get moving in the morning some sort of hot cereal, coffee, and whatever cured meat I have like landsjaeger, pepperoni, jerky. If I have have time to lounge around then eggs, meat, fruit, and coffee.
I don't know, I use both moose milk and Lehigh Valley for patch lube and have not had any problems with my powder. On the other hand, the patches are not soaking wet either. Just damp works good.
Try a different lube. It's been my experience that bore butter doesn't work for me. I use Balistol, Lehigh Valley, or moose milk. These work very good. I also use a soft beeswax/oliveoil paste lube.
