    Grandpa stories

Your story reminds me of something I did with one of the grandson’s. My daughter was living with us and her 5yo son( now 22 ). I was outside and my grandson asked if he could have some snuff. I gave him some and a minute or so later he asked if he could spit. Of course I told him to spit. Then...

    .370 Smoothbore?

Catboy, it is yours to do with what you wish. I have a 32 gauge shotgun(.526) I normally shoot 3/4 ounce of shot over 55grains of whatever I brought. But sometimes I bump the shot up to one ounce. Using the Skychief loading technique helps. Just keep in mind you will have a 20 yard gun. There is...

All the loads I use in my smoothbores. I also use the Skychief load.

    Skychief question

longcruise, I start one down the barrel and then start the second one and ram them down together. Also a tip I got from someone somewhere was to take a pin or small safety pin and put a hole in them off center. The tiny holes allow enough air to escape that they seat flat on the powder.

    Hawken Shotgun

Mossback, do you want to see what a rifled muzzleloader can do with shot? A member here called Black Powder Maniac does youtube videos and did one called “Shooting Shot from Rifled Muzzleloaders”. One of the members posted it on the forum but I cannot find it. Good luck.

    Drams to Grains

Robin, I searched high and low for my only DGW catalog but could not find it. Maybe another member can jump into this thread with the info. Their catalog has a lot of information in the back and I suspect the chart you are looking for came from there. I ordered a new one but it will be weeks...

    Skychief question

Instead of the hard nitro card over powder card, I use two over shot cards over the powder. I started doing this after reading an article written by Toby Bridges back in the 80’s. He said he used them and eliminated the need for two different cards.

    Drams to Grains

Robin, I believe there is one in a DGW catalog. The one you pictured may be from the catalog. I’m not at home to check but if there is no answer in three or four hours I’ll check and see. Good luck.

    My Rescue Pistol

Nice work! How did you figure the stock? I have a couple of these Colonial pistols both castoffs. The first one I’ve had about ten years and is accurate out to 20yds. The second one I just bought from my LGS. It was missing some parts and I’m about to start on it. I like very much how you...

    Gun Value

I watch CVA Kentucky rifles on GB and I have seen recent rifles actually selling for $200 to $250. A few imo real trash. If your Kentucky is USA made add a hundred. I think the CVA Mountain rifle runs about $100 more than the Kentucky rifle. The others someone else needs to comment on. Good luck.

    Ultra Hi Kit Rifle

That seam is where the patent breech attaches to the barrel as do T/C rifles and a few other brands. To my knowledge the exploding barrels were on CVA & Traditions inline rifles. If any other member has better information then please jump into the thread.

CVA .50 HAWKEN PISTOL PARTS NEEDED

Thank you. This was done maybe ten years ago but I think I melted more soldier over the wire. I lightly pounded the wire to make it flatter but not thin flat. After I wrapped it I applied brass black. Good luck.

CVA .50 HAWKEN PISTOL PARTS NEEDED

I had a colonial pistol that had a broken trigger guard. The pistol was a beater and I didn’t want to spend the money with Deer Creek. Like Notchy Bob said, I soldered it and wrapped in fine wire and rubbed it with brass black. I tried to create the appearance of what might have happed if a...

    Goodbye my friends

Wizard 1962, stick around and read the threads as long as you can. Due the physical limitations of my legs I have not been able to venture into the woods for a decade but I experience the joy of the woods through the texts of others now. It is not the same as doing it but it brings back many...
