    Triangle two sided file??

Brownells sells a 60 deg. sight base file that has 2 safe sides. (Sorry no link- I'm on my tablet.) Most builders it seems just grind one side smooth on a regular 3 sided file. That's the route I took too. Good luck!

    Touch Hole 'Speriment

Wow! Thanks for that 22fowl! I'll give him a call when I get started on the next one. That sounds like the way to go!

    Touch Hole 'Speriment

Blackbruin- $30.00 is VERY reasonable! I will check into that. WKD- that picture is misleading... the center of the touch hole is actually just shy of .150" in front of the plug face. I fit the plug myself, and it ended up right at .450" deep, then when I marked and drilled the vent, it's...

    Touch Hole 'Speriment

Rifleman1776- As I mentioned in the first post, this is my first go round with a flinter so really my picking the flash hole maybe wasn't what it needed. I was just trying to get it to go off and was trying everything I could come up with. Does high humidity cause this? I have been in the habit...

    Touch Hole 'Speriment

Grenadier- after reading what seemed like lots of bad experiences with touch holes that are coned on the outside along with reading a lot of posts that report dependable ignition only after going to an internally coned touch hole liner, (White Lightnin' seems to be a favorite) it's just that I...

    Touch Hole 'Speriment

I completed my first flintlock earlier in the fall, and started out with a straight 1/16" (.0625") drilled touch hole. It worked, but after just a few shots was completely unreliable for consistent ignition. So the next step was to go to a #50 drill (.070") which gave pretty well the same...

    Confused about measuring powder

Hello SteveKY! Have you tried Paducah Shooter's Supply? I called down there about 2 or 3 months or so ago asking about black powder and was told at the time that they had it. Shooters is a 45 or 50 mile each way trip for me and I never got around to getting down there to pick any up though...

    wooden vise jaws

Here's what we use. I had seen variations of these for years but couldn't find a set to fit this vise. I did see a similar set on the internet somewhere and decided to make my own. I drew them up using Inkscape and had my son cut them out of some 18 gauge sheet metal on the plasma cutter that we...

    "Old Man" Jack Hinson

Hello Kodiak13- I don't know for sure, but would like to point out that there are pictures of the rifle in the book, and the rifle itself has been present at some of the book signings.... while the general public could get close to- but not handle the weapon, it would be easy to believe that...

    Ladies Rifle

That is a sweet looking little rifle! Good choice on the Honey Maple finish. The sunshine, palm trees, and what looks to be a blooming fruit tree that are also in the picture looks pretty good too!!

Renegade barrel with QLA...what to do ?

Hawkeye2- I'm a newbie, and was seriously scratchin' my head as to what a QLA was too! I did a little google-fu though and see that it is/was a type of muzzle treatment that T/C offered (offers?) that looks to be a short counterbore of about the diameter of the bottom of the grooves for a...

    Squirrel rifle

Congratulations!! That is NICE!!! Would you mind sharing what finish you used on the wood? I really like the darker stain (aquafortis?) without too much gloss over it. Oh! and some more pics wouldn't hurt anything!

    Help: Source for Small Scraper

Eric Krewson said: "I make them out of concrete nails, easy and kinda' fun. You will have a dozen or so different ones before long." Thanks for that tip Eric! I was needing a couple of concrete nails to use for patch box latches anyway. After I saw your post I got busy and now have a pound of...
