    Using the patchbox...

I just keep my ball puller, cleaning jag and spare flint in there.

    Shooting up

I apologize the cosine formula is the exact same as estimating the flat line distance. :headslap: brain fart. So far no info on an actual formula but I have found the cheaper rangefinders with compensation built in use this formula for their calculations

    Shooting up

Not sure if this exactly answers your question Spence but found this an interesting read. Towards the bottom is the info I’m referring to but a good read in its entirety. http://www.millettsights.com/resources/shooting-tips/mathematics-for-precision-shooters/ Upon further investigation it...

    Shooting up

If you aimed straight up or down your bullet would not travel straight up or down. Your sights sit higher than your bore. But furthermore your not comparing apples to apples. Straight up and straight down take out the effects of gravity on the projectile interms of drop. All that proves is that...

    Shooting up

Talked to my grandpa who told me about the idea of just use the straight line distance. He told me that he was told that it was only useful for either short ranges i.e archery from a tree or out to about 200 yards under “reasonable angles” and he always understood it as an estimate to get you...

    Shooting up

We had this discussion sometime back and you walked me through it then. I have since gone over the math both from the info you gave me and my own research and found it solid. No argument here.

    Mink Oil

According to my can and the product information on the website it is “pure mink oil tallow”. Website also goes on to claim no additional additives. So not sure what your driving at. Either they fooled me with fancy word games, out right lied to consumers or it is what they say it is. Please...

    Shooting up

Spence explained this really well not to terribly long ago. I’ve not had much luck with the search feature on this site. Don’t remember the title of the original post.

    prices then and now

👍 on the pay it forward. I got started in archery, flintlocks and traditional archery this way. Got to talking to some great guys and they had some old stuff that they got started with or no longer used because of upgrading. In my early/mid twenties didn’t have a lot of money so they all gave...

    Tastiest game bird?

My Dutch grandmother always called that “mock duck”. Soooo good some local butcher shops still sell it.

    Woods walk setup

I lube a strip of pillow ticking with mink oil and cut at muzzle. I just keep my prelubed strip in my bag. You’re over thinking this. Find a patch and lube that works for you. Then worry about how your going to carry it. Most options are pretty simple and an altoids tin can hold a fair amount...

    The inefficiences of Flintlocks

Look into Dave Price. It’s not a side by side, but it’s a a swivel breach and IMHO really freaking cool.

    A flintlock hunting question

Roger that. If that’s the case then your roundball will do everything you need it to. I shot a deer at 80 yards with a .490 rb with 75 grains of ff and had a complete pass through. Even hitting some bone.

    A flintlock hunting question

I don’t know your abilities with a firearm but would guess as far as you can comfortably shoot it with iron sights. One hundred yards is a long way with no magnification.
  17. B

    A gift of cast iron.

I agree with NA on this one. Have some old no names that I always choose over my new lodge. I’ve actually contemplated refinishing the lodge and smooth it up a bit

    So I bought a smoothie...

That is certainly true but I was just responding to a previous poster who said you can’t shoot roundball out of anything but a cylinder bore gun.

    So I bought a smoothie...

Yeah never understand the fear of shooting rb through a choke. If it goes down it will come back out.
