    NW PA Hunting advice

I've hunted NW PA my whole life. Locate the Allegheny River anywhere from Warren south. Hunt the hills on either side of the river. They are steep rugged and ancient but they hold the deer and turkey and you will not run into many others.

    Mike Belliveau Load

I played with my 20 GA smooth rifle up to 110 grns 2f. I never thought recoil was bad; No more than my remaining 7600 carbine in .30-06. And I think I'm recoil sensitive.

    Now my next problem....

I'm 0/2 on locks!! Today was daughters first day of kindergarten so I took day off and went to the range with my .36 cal Virginia by tip curtis. First two shots were great. Bullseye as a matter of fact. On the third shot the hammer fell only to half cock and stopped. I tried a few more times...

    Help with my lock

I called Chambers today and spoke with Barbie. I explained what was wrong and she said to send it back immediately and it would be taken care of. Sounds like great service.

    Help with my lock

Another thing I've noticed is that I can't get a 3/4 by 7/8 flint in the lock. It is too long and contacta the frizzen at half cocktail holding it open just,a hair. Any thoughts on that?

    Help with my lock

I have a new Siler lock that came with my TVM early Virginia. I've noticed that the square stud that comes out of the lockplate to hold the hammer is at a slight angle and not square. When I tighten down the hammer it cocks the hammer in towards the barrel rather than square to the face of the...

Do I need to lube the wad?

On my 1/2 fiber wads do they have to be lubed? The load I described earlier this week that gave superior accuracy was powder, card, unlubed wad, ball, card. Nothing in the shot string was lubed. Tried lubed wad tonight and not as accurate. Do I have to lube?

    Bare ball shooting'. Opinions please...

Here is the thing; conventional wisdom tells us the tighter the better. My load can pinkie start and basically drops down the bore but it gives me superior accuracy.

    Bare ball shooting'. Opinions please...

Just got a new smooth rifle and STRUGGLED to find a patched load that provided any semblance of accuracy. Tried bare ball this weekend and WOW. the gun shoots like a rifle. I'm now a believer.

    Found THE load!!!

Yes it has a rear sight. Call it a smooth rifle. Virginia style with .62 cal swamped colerain barrel 42" Now this weekend is the shot load development. Goal is to take both a fall turkey and deer with the gun this year wearing traditional garb.

    Found THE load!!!

So if you have followed my posts the past few weeks, you know I've been struggling to find a load that even provided some consistency. Last week I posted that 110 grains of 2f with a .600 ball and .015 patch provided the best accuracy. So inspired by Briysmoothy I went out and tried some 3f...
