    Help… Broken Lock

So I opened up the protective case I’ve had my Fusil-de-Chasse in for a few months to find the screw holding the frizzen to the rest of the lock has broken off. Not the biggest thing in the world, but the end of the screw remains recessed in the lock… Anyone have any ideas how to get it out?

    Colt Patterson No.5

A pretty interesting look into the history and development of the Colt Patterson No.5 pistol... They use a reproduction for obvious reasons, and pyrodex for demonstration purposes but it’s a really well done episode and looks to be the first in a new series. And while it’s outside the realm...

    Militia House?

Anyone know what's going on with these guys? The last update said they were still moving and that was almost a year ago... They had some nice stuff that I would have liked to have ordered from, but at this point I'm ready to start looking elsewhere.

    Rust prevention...

So down here in Texas I've noticed the weather isn't kind to black powder guns. For the most part this is easy to mitigate. I over oil during cleaning and touch up metal as needed whenever rust starts to appear. That said, I don't want to be taking the barrel out of the stock on a regular basis...

    Wad thickness...

So I got my fusil-de-Chasse out last week for the first time... The more I get to handle it, the more I love this gun. Anyway, I had meant to try and get a rudimentary idea of what it shot most accurately between different size balls, powder, and wads vs patching, but when I got to the range I...

    So here's a dumb question...

So I recently got my .62 caliber/20ga Fusil and I need to order some ball before I get out to the range. I went on TOW today and realized they have the two (20ga and .62 cal) separated into different categories. 20ga has .600 round ball listed and .62 cal lists .610. I was going to get both and...

    Received my TVLLE Fusil!!!

French TVLLE Fusil de Chasse in .62 cal/20ga. and stocked in oak. It was built off a Track of the Wolf kit for me by Larry Cruise, and I couldn’t be more pleased. I’d never handled a Fusil before this one and the first thing that struck me is how shockingly light this beautiful smoothbore is! It...

    Fusil-de-Chasse question...

Just a couple of quick questions in regards to the TVLLE Fusil-de-Chasse... 1) Historically, with steel accents being so common on these guns, would the front sight have been steel or brass? 2) Would the gun have been blued or browned, or would it have been finished bright and left to develop...

Really disappointed in TOW customer service...

Not in their overall service, just their reply to a question I had asked... I recently inquired about the difference in their 20ga barrels for their TULLE kit, specifically who made their non-Colerain barrel and what the practical differences were between it and the Colerain barrel. The response...

How often were powderhorns left raw?

We always see scrimshawed horns and it makes sense that these would be the ones most often preserved. However, I was thinking today and began to wonder if scrimshawed horns were really the norm or not? So out of curiosity, how often donyounthinknhorns were left blank? Do you think doing so was...

    MilitiaHouse?

Does anyone know anything about a company called militiahouse? They popped up on my facecreep newsfeed today and I've never heard of them... Quality? Best to be avoided? What's the word? http://www.militiahouse.com/leather-goods.html

    TOW TULLE questions...

So I'm considering having someone build one of TOW's TULLE kits for me and I have a couple questions regarding historical accuracy... 1) TOW offers both a 42" and 44" barrel kits. I understood the 44" barrel is the proper length. Is this accurate? 2) TOW offers two 20ga barrels. One made by...

    Rear sights?

Just curious how common rear sights were on Fusil de Chasse smoothbores? Were any Fusils made intentionally with rear sights or were these simply added on at later dates?

    TVM Fowler

So I'm deployed again and think I'm gonna take the opportunity to order another flintlock, this time a smoothbore. My first desire remains a 1742 Brown Bess. But since parts for that model see forever in short supply I'm also looking at possibly doing a civilian fowler. Does anyone have first...

    Smooth bore rifles...

So I've run across some references to smooth bore rifles, both being reemed out after the rifling has been worn out and specifically ordered as such... I'm curious how common these were and if they were specific to certain styles? Anyone know?

    Now I'm paranoid... (Rust)

So due to a PCS move down to Texas and training requirements as I prepare to deploy again, I haven't been able to shoot my flintlock for about 4 or 5 months now. The last time I did (both my flinter and my Lyman GPR), I did my standard thorough cleaning and put them up. We get down to Texas and...

    Cocking arm not staying cocked...

So I just got back from an NTC rotation and my lock that I had to send back to TVM for an unrelated reason was waiting for me. I reinstalled it today and attempted to do a dry fire to test it and when I cock the arm it immediately falls forward. It won't actually cock the arm. I pull it back and...

    Historically accurate powderhorns?

So I was window shopping at a few different sites and ran across a few new powderhorns at Crazy Crow advertised as being historically accurate for the period before the French & Indian War and through the Fur Trade Era. Now I'm hardly an expert, hence the thread, but superficially they look ok...

    Pedersoli Brown Bess

I've never handled one up close, so can someone more knowledgeable tell me how accurate it is to the 1769 Short Land Pattern? What does it have that it isn't supposed to? What is it missing that it should have? Same question for their Charleville repro. Thanks...

    Lock issue with TVM rifle

So I recently purchased a TVM kit with an L&R Queen Anne lock and after assembling it I noticed the cock arm seemed a bit loose. I attempted to tighten it to no avail and since this is my first flint lock I thought maybe it's just supposed to be a little loose and put it up. This morning I was...
