    Making slowmatch

I just soak hemp twine in a potassium nitrate solution for a day or two and it works fine. I don't even bother to heat anything.

FOR SALE .62 North Star smoothbore reduced

I have lived all over California and I have never even HEARD of any restrictions on muzzleloaders. I am in Norcal now, but I have lived in the LA/Orange County area pretty recently and never heard about any requirements for them to go through an FFL anywhere in the state. If you or anyone else...

Anybody ever get a Daguerreotype/tintype/Ambrotype of themselves?

After trying some different search terms to get around the ebay/amazon/etsy spam (Yeah, Amazon is going to have daguerrotype cameras:doh:) I found some artists who still do them. Here is a site of someone who still does them and sells equipment, but it is a little too pricy for me...

Anybody ever get a Daguerreotype/tintype/Ambrotype of themselves?

I have wanted to try daguerreotypes for so long, and I might try it in the next year or two. About 20 years ago I found a club on line that did them, but I can't find anything now. Of course that was back when Google was a search engine and not an ad server.

    Sex in Muzzle Loading Terminology?

If you think about where the term "breech" comes from it gives another reason for "certain articles" to be unmentionable.

The M79 of the 1700s - Hand Mortar

I noticed that the grenade was just dropped in, no patch or anything else holding it in. It is possible that the grenade could be flung out of the barrel without tossing the whole gun. Aren't there any surviving grenadier drill manuals from that time that might have addressed it?

    Nitrate Escapes Custody

It drives your blood pressure up My blood pressure used to be at the high end of the normal range consistently, and I saw it drop by 15 torr when I made an effort to cut it out of my diet.

    Top touchhole

On my Tannenberg gonne I just drilled it straight and opened it up at the top with a tapered punch. That seemed to be more close to the original.

I don't think seeing people in that area before air conditioning and organized crime would be historically correct.

In real life Civil War what was the most ways a revolver was loaded?

My first handgun was a Pietta '58 Remington. After watching Pale Rider I bought some spare cylinders and tried it. Swapping was quick and easy after a litle practice, but by the third cylinder the fouling was bad enough to make it really tough to pull the hammer. By the fourth it was almost...

    Are YOU over 18?

It could have to do with a new law here in California. It's illegal to "market" guns to minors, with the definition of "marketing" being very broad. A lot of organizations had to scrub their membership lists because of it.

For anyone considering an Indian manufactured Flintlock

Skimming over these posts it looks like the main defense of indian guns, that I've also heard elsewhere, is "They won't blow up in your face!". With modern materials and manufacturing, making a black powder barrel that can withstand firing pressures is not a great feat. I've done it myself. If...

    Hello from the Mojave

Welcome to the board. I was in Mojave (the town) for about 5 years working in the "aerospace industry" before moving to Redding for a real job. At least you don't have to go out of your way there to find a place to shot.

    Two brass swivel guns....

Have you tried using that kind of bit to bore out a gun? I did that with my handgonnes and always had a hard time with the bit wanting to walk to one side. This was just going in about 8-10 inches. I ended up using a boring bar to finish the bores.
