    Midway Traditions/Pietta 1860

My 1860 came in last week, and I finally had enough time on the weekend to disassemble and clean up. Fit and finish on the gun is very good, and I found about the same burrs as Nameless did, and also cleaned up notch on hammer as I had saw duelist1954 video as well. I am well pleased with the...

Midway has Crockett .32 on sale

I agree it is a good price for a factory finished one, lowest price I have seen in a long time. Hanshi I have seen your comments about how much you like the Crockett, and I want one myself, its just not possible at this time.

    Home Made Percussion Caps Review

Well I made about 25 caps with the mixture and 5 with German caps. Tested them on revolver for firing and they work fine. The kit version is hot, I used a small pistol primer cup for each one, and I believe I can cut that down to half the next time. The toy caps worked fine as well but not near...

Midway has Crockett .32 on sale

I have been wanting the kit version for a long time, after building the kentucky long rifle in 50, I wanted something smaller. Vacation and buying an 1860 from Midway leaves me broke LOL. They only have the factory version in stock, but I have read so many good reviews on the Crockett, I will...

Anyone shooting paper cartridges in 36 & 44 caliber?

Well I ended up ordering the Guns of the West 36 & 44 kit. Will give it a try when it gets here. Looking forward to seeing how hard it is. I already have cartridge boxes to put them in when made, so that will not be an issue. Thanks for all the help and will update when it gets here.

If you just ordered a pietta

I for do not mind doing the work on them myself, its part of black powder shooting as far as I am concerned. Got to take them apart to clean them after shooting, so might as well polish up what while its apart. I had to do some work on my recent 1851 and I learned a lot doing it. It was my first...

Anyone shooting paper cartridges in 36 & 44 caliber?

Yes Sir, duelist 1954 Mike's videos are great and I saw paper cartridges on his videos first. Then watched all the available videos I could find. I have the patience to do it, but just not sure on which kit. I saw on one of Mike's videos that you would have to modify the port to load conical's...

    Midway Traditions/Pietta 1860

Keep us informed on how it goes with the new gun as mine has not arrived yet. I hope that it is not a bad Pietta mess, but we will see when it arrives. Good luck with everybodys Piettas as Midway has it going on. At least for now anyways. Us pietta brothers have to stick together LOL.

Thank you Piquant, I have read that many folks say the same thing. Just looking at it right now, and not ready to jump. Seems like it would be a great time saver though.

Anyone shooting paper cartridges in 36 & 44 caliber?

I am looking at trying my hand a paper cartridges for the above calibers. I have looked at several kits online, but I am wondering if anyone on here is making and selling kits for the above? Also, does anyone use round balls only in the paper cartridges? Since I don't have a conical mold yet...

What Muzzleloading Stuff Did You Do Today?

Made my first 25 percussion caps today with the prime all mix, and made 5 with German caps. Will try them out tomorrow to see if they work? Went back to casting rounds again today, got another good run of .454 and .380. Guess I am caught up with round balls now.

What Muzzleloading Stuff Did You Do Today?

Got some new lead in the shop, and casted about 12 lbs of .454 round balls for shooting this fall and winter. Got to wonder sometimes why we do what we do for black powder? I for one love the aspect of the doing it yourself and the history behind the black powder shooting. Keep on shooting...
