    Helicoil nipple?

    Good day all. I picked up a nice little 16g a fowler. Something did not look quite right about the nipple - didn't seem to be down tight - so I carefully backed it out to have a look...a small chip of thread came out with the nipple.     How to darken finished wood?

    I'm working on a Lyman kit. I thought the wood was dark enough to go without stain, but after 3 coats of truoil I've decided that it's lighter than I want. Is there a way to get the truoil off so that the wood will take stain? Are there any other tricks that can darken the finish w/o removal...
