    Range Time

First... a little apology. It's been a couple years...yes, I said years since I've posted here and I'm sorry. Life gets in the way some time, but I'm back. Please welcome me into the fold.... I went to the range today for the first time in a year. Took my cameras along. Hope you enjoy the...

    Questions about 54 smoothbore... shot/wad/cards

Now lets talk about shooting shot.... all I really want to do is take out the occasional rabbit/squirrel so I got the standard stuff from "Track", but I found the "over-powder,cushon wad" card almost impossible to load without a range rod. 32 gauge is .526 caliber 28 gauge is .550 caliber so...

    Smoothbore sight-in trouble/solution

Recently built a smoothbore with a 54 cal/50 inch barrel and English round face lock. Went to the range this weekend and was absolutely spraying the balls in a 6 inch circle all around the 10 ring at 25 yard. High, Low, Left Right.... it was horrible... .520 ball 90g 2f .010 patch damp patch...

Where can I find these tools ?

My brother wants a set, and I figure it easier to buy them for him than mine walking off one day. Anyway, I've looked everywhere and can't locate them, little help please.

    Ball/Bullet board question

Quick question for those who use them.... If you have a loading combination that is difficult to load normally in the field. Would carrying them in a bullet, thereby pushing them through the board, and into the barrel make them easier to load. :hmm: Reason I ask is I want to shoot a .535 ball...

    Little help..... Need inspiration.

I've decided that I need a 28 gauge but I have no idea what to build. I want a long gun with a long wrist, a little drop, and a big round face lock. I saw one that I liked and I think the maker was Bollock, Bullock, Ballok or something like that.. (someone help me if you know the maker)...

    Trigger Guard... price, opinion

What we have here is a steel, sand cast trigger guard for a Lancaster rifle. For you that scratch build.... how much would you pay (of course passing the cost on to you customer) for a filed, polished, ready to install trigger guard like this. Just curious because I would probably pay $100.

    Time to brag a little.....

Maryland had their Blackpowder Championship this weekend (Fri, Sat, Sun). It's a long weekend but I look forward to it every year. Anyway, I won the Flint (169) and the Unlimited Smoothbore Aggregates (164) this year. Just wanted to show my 50y buffalo target (48) and brag a little... :blah...

Fort Fredrick.... tell me all about it.

All excited.... got up early and got my stuff together (shower, coffee, wallet, checkbook) and I'm all ready to go. Kissed the wife off to work and as soon as she passed the mailbox, I was shuffling my daughter into the car-seat, Sesame Street in the DVD player, and away we went. Five miles...

    Moving wood/shrinking

This rifle was built about 2 years ago from a blank that was at least 15 years old. Built this rifle for my brother and he had it above his fireplace where he has a wood stove. :cursing: Now look at it !!! (I wish Claude would get a ("strangling my brother") smilie so I could use it here...

Don't get to excited :rotf: I didn't fall down and bonk my head causing me to want one. It's just a little clip I pulled off a larger video that I thought you'd like to see. Just click on the blue underlined thingy. Thingy Disclaimer

    Daughter's Verner... Finished

Finally finished the rifle. It's a 32 caliber Verner inspired rifle with a 42 inch Rayl barrel, Stan Hollenbaugh lock, and Davis triggers. It's not perfect and it's got some mistakes, but I'm overall happy with how it turned out. The barrel isn't finished doing it's thing, but I got tired of...

    New Horn

I was extra good this year so Santa brought me a new horn. I've always wanted a Carolina horn so I had Mike Small make me one. It has a turned cherry plug and a antler spout. Mike makes terrific "Southern" horns, if anyone is interest here's his site. Mike Small Powderhorns

    Daughter's Verner

My daughter's rifle is coming along nicely. I thought everyone would like a look pre-wire, carving and engraving. Need to give her something other than those nasty baby dolls the wife keeps pushing on her..... :shake:

    Wood Burning

Ok .... I have an idea an it bound to lead to no good but I want to burn the some fine details around some incise carving that I'm doing on a Verner inspired rifle. I have a buddy that does waterfowl carving and burns extremely fine/detailed for feathers and such. Has anyone ever done this on a...

    Interesting gun and lock

A buddy of mine has a rifle built about 30 years by Ron Griffie. The barrel 40 caliber Griffie barrel and is 48 inches. It's kinda like me... not much to look at but a really good shooter. :o What makes this rifle interesting is the lock. It's made from a extender arm for the trunk of a...
