    Absolutely beautiful. Congratulations!

    Brass range rod

I was taught to use my fingers on the rod, not my palm. That gives some protection from an accidental discharge or a broken rod.

    Clay pipe leaks

Let it build up a little layer of carbon in the bowl.

    Clay pipe leaks

Remove the stem, cover stem end with a finger and blow through the bowl. There should be no air leak. If there is an air leak then the pipe is cracked somewhere. Discard pipe. If it's air tight, it may be wet from the moisture from the tobacco or draining back from the stem. Let it dry and...

roasting meat over a camp fire

Very good advice. Here's a link that show you how to estimate the temp. by using your hand to feel the heat. How to Check the Temperature of Your Grill https://www.realsimple.com/food-recipes/cooking-tips-techniques/grilling/grill-temperature

    Rifle sling

You're correct. Still, I figure that a piece of rope tied on the same way would be period appropriate even if not documented.

    Rifle sling

That Orvis sling is nice but as you stated is expensive at over $100.00. These are $40.00 and seem closer to a period design. http://www.accu-riser.com/rs-5008-universal-sling/ http://www.accu-riser.com/products/Universal-Sling.html I just use a wide rope tied the same way. Cheaper and takes...

    Gun cases for long guns

I got this from Crazy Crow: "Kentucky Rifle Hard Case - 72" long." FREE SHIPPING. Interior dimensions: 69" x 13-1/2" x 4" It's a good, solid case (not waterproof) but I do feel it's over priced at $269.00. However, it was the longest case I was able to find...

I have that case. It's a good case but I think it's overpriced.

    Birchwood Barricade, Less Fouling?

I didn't expect it to actually reduce the fouling just not make for difficult cleaning in the field. My favorite rust inhibitor is RIG but I suspect RIG would make a real fouling mess.

    Birchwood Barricade, Less Fouling?

Thanks again Zonie: That's the answer I was looking for. Seems to me that the Barricade would be ideal on a long duration hunt to provide rust protection and also allow for low residue once the weapon is fired.

    Birchwood Barricade, Less Fouling?

Thanks Zonie: That was pretty much what I remembered. But, how long does it take for the Barricade to "dry"?

    Birchwood Barricade, Less Fouling?

I seem to remember a post here where it was stated that Birchwood Casey Barricade was not only a good bore protector but also tended to give less fouling than other petroleum products when used with black powder. Anyone have any experience to support this?

Artificer; What do you mean by a "wet formed pad", and how do you do it? Thanks, Walt
