    whiskeys

Lemon Hart was the original supplier of rum to the British navy. Pusser's was the last rum they issued. No idea what came between. The problem I have with Pusser's is that it has been watered down. "Proof" as required by the navy is 114.7 on the US proof scale. Aside from that I like it.

Re: Snake bite There is snake bite and there is snake bite. Alcohol is definitely not recommended for rattle snake bite. On the other hand, a good quality rum is essential in warding off the effects of python bite. The only problem is getting the d**n snake to bite. (Years ago I had two...

    Fowler or shotgun???

As a type, the fowler orginated in the flintlock era and was used for shooting sitting ducks. The gun tended to be long in the barrel while weight and balance were not an issue. The pan flash would startle the ducks and combined with the long lock time it was only practical for sitting ducks...

    Powder Type for Patriot

The sights on the Ardesa and the TC are totally different. The TC has full blown target sights. The front sight is a black Patridge with a glint shield as opposed to the Ardesa's simple brass bale. The TC's rear sight ia a square notch with full adjustments for windage and elevation, the...

    Powder Type for Patriot

Just took a look at the Ardesa Patriot. For starters it doesn't have true target sights like the TC Patriot. Also the trigger works in both conventional and set modes while the TC Patriot trigger works only in set mode.

    big bore flint pistol???

I am looking for somethinmg along the lines of a British Sea Service pistol of the napoleonic wars era. I don't want to put money in it so it doesn't have to be exact. A Tower pistol would do. I suspect the British Navy carried a rathe miscellaneous lot of pistols in any case.

A few questions on Pedersoli 69cal Flintlock pistol

Back in the day, pistols of this type were loaded with a rather modest powder charge. The idea was to keep recoil down. They figured with a .69 ball at a range of only a few feet, a lot of velocity was not all that necessary. (The other guy would tend to get a bit peaked carrying that much...

    Too light a load?

My Rogers & Spencer replica scatters 'em like a shot gun with lite loads. With a medium load it begins to put 'em where they belong.

R&D cyclinder that 45LC don't fit in all the way.

I have an R&D for my Ruger Old Army and so far no problems. I have only tried one factory load in it so far, so there may be some out there that are too long, I just haven't run into them yet.

Rifling twist in a pistol barrel

I have a related problem. I bought a miniature cannon thinking it would have a smooth bore. Once in hand, I found the barrel had been turned from 45 caliber rifle stock and had slow twist rifling. I suppose if it is too slow for the rather short barrel and light loads I plan to use, it won't...

    T/C Patriot

It occurs to me that the reversed trigger position may be the reason the Patriot is set up to fire only in set mode. If you pull the rear trigger by mistake nothing happens if you have not set it yet. If you pull the front trigger by mistake, the worst is that you set the trigger. As for the...

    T/C Patriot

I bought a trapper second hand but apparently unfired. Some yo-yo had ground off the top of the trigger so it would fire only in set mode. Whuffo? The Patriot lock is designed from the get go to fire only in set mode. It does have an adjustment screw. This brings me to my problem. The...

    Spare cylinders?

Cylinders are generally fitted to the revolver. The fact that they require fitting would discourage wide use of second cylinders. It's not like a second magzine where you expect the magazine to fit any pistol of the appropriate model that comes along. I have acquired several second cylinders...

    New traditions trapper pistol.

I bought a used trapper. I found that some one had ground off the top of the trigger so that it would only fire in set mode. I phoned up Traditions and they promptly sent me a new trigger, gratis. Whilst replacing the trigger I managed to launch one of the springs into orbit. (Will I ever...

I am going to suggest that the moderator(s) lock this thread and start a new one on the same continued subject, simply because this one is getting so long as to be clumsy and shows no signs of slowing down.

For camera protection you might consider placing the camera behind a barrier and aiming it into a mirror at the corner of the barrier. This is a common trick for this sort of thing, such as a head on view of the bullet leaving the muzzle. (In which case the mirror is sacrificed.) I have a...

    First Chainfire

One point of disagreement. Mercury fulminate priming compound is not corrosive. It was in wide use in cartridge primers until after the end of the BP era. With BP, the crud picked up most of the cap residue and its effects went unnoticed. With the advent of cleaner smokeless, the mercury...
