SOLD Todd Butler Longhunters Knife and Sheath

I have a new "longhunter" style knife by Todd Butler available. It is the finest knife I own but I need an English trade knife, not another Woodbury style knife. Todd studied with the Houses and other greats and it shows in his work. The blade is 1084 carbon steel that was coal forged. 8" long...

    Advice for period appropriate build

Definitely! This is a lot of great information and a lot to think about. It is interesting digging into the evolution of thought that drove higher production of rifles and which groups drove demand in the colonies.

    Advice for period appropriate build

This information is outstanding! I really appreciate everyone's input so far. It has given me man jump off points for further research before I take the plunge. My plan is to build a kit for the first one in order to make sure I am comfortable applying what I have read regarding building...

    Advice for period appropriate build

I appreciate the information thus far and will explore some of these other resources. Generally speaking since I can't dig into resources right now would early VA or early PA rifles have been more widespread up and down the Appalachians pre-revolutionary war?

    Advice for period appropriate build

Already have a smoothbore. Specifically wanting to build a rifle. I've taken small and large game with my smoothbore, just want to try something different.

    Advice for period appropriate build

I am going to be starting my first kit after the first of the year. I like southern mountain rifles but they are too late for the periods I want the rifle to work for. I intend to do period hunts with this and educational programs from 1755 on through the early 1800s. That being said my...

    Tremendous Squirrel opener!!!

Skychief, Tried your load pattern and I'm sold. Patterned it on paper versus the charge-card-cushion-shot-card load I had been shooting an it was way better. Thought I'd try it in the field. Rolled my first squirrel with the new smoothie from 35+ yards using 60 grains 3f with 70 grains of #6...

    1842 springfield

As others have stated, the rifling of a '42 Springfield was not designed for a PRB. Stick with the Minie. The drop right in the muzzle even after a few shots. Enjoy!

    1862 Richmond .58 Repro

Every basic questioned asked would have been easily answered with the search function. A little research is much more rewarding than being spoon fed info. Just saying. Enjoy the Richmond. I shoot a lot of Civil War pieces and always start with the standard military load and work from there...

Appreciate it I followed your other post diligently and was curious if that's what you ended up using. I'll try the same and report back. Thanks! Patrick Ferringer

    Tremendous Squirrel opener!!!

Did you put an over powder card followed by shot then the cushion wad or was there a wad under the shot charge as well? I'm heading out with my 20 bore next week and am going to try to cushion on top to see if it tightens my patterns.

    Group in the Charlotte area

I appreciate it. I am squared away with CW and run a regional authentic mess. If you happen to find anything out about the guys or anyone doing 18th century trekking, let me know. Thanks again.

    Group in the Charlotte area

There really is nothing around this area. In fact, there is only one public outdoor shooting range within an hour drive of here and it is only open for four hours each Saturday. and is limited to 100 yards. I already checked the NMLRA resources since I am a member. I will check the trekking...

    Group in the Charlotte area

Thanks. I have seen the information for the Asheville shoot. Their range is only an hour or so away so they may be worth looking into.

    Wind and .600

Believe me, I am surprised by this piece every time I shoot it! The search function is not great but I will see what I can find. My goal is to consistently hit clay birds at 75 yards. Ambitious, but doable.

    Wind and .600

I have been concerned the load is a bit light. I read that an 80 grain charge of 3f with over powder card, cushion wad, and .017 ticking patched ball is dead on to 75 yards. Anyone use cards or wads for PRB? I shoot and prime with 3f. Has worked well. Any suggestions of charges to try? I am...

    Photos of new sighted fowler

After about a dozen days at the range since I got it, I can say the first time accuracy was no fluke. I was shooting 100 yards today and getting predictable groups with the strong cross winds. My other BP guns may collect dust for awhile.
