Any Lyman Plains Pistol fans here?

It comes with a can of Pyrodex, box of hornady balls, package of patches, 2 tins of primers, a powder measure, and a ball starter/ram rod. I think I will pick it up this week.

Any Lyman Plains Pistol fans here?

I checked GB and didn't see any consistency on pricing. I will call tomorrow and see exactly what comes with it.

Any Lyman Plains Pistol fans here?

Interesting reading this, and some nice looking guns shown here. I found one in a gun shop yesterday. It's a factory gun not a kit in like new condition and comes with some caps, powder and balls. Would it be worth picking up for around $280?

    Thompson Center Hawken calibers

So you are saying a Renegade barrel will fit a Hawken. I didn't know that. Is the .45 and .50 the 15/16 barrel and the .54 the 1" barrel?

    Thompson Center Hawken calibers

What calibers was the Thompson Center Hawken made in? The smallest I have seen is .45. Did they come in anything smaller? Did the cap locks and the flintlocks come in the same calibers?

I got my gun today. When I took it out of the box, well let's just say it was a well oiled machine. I got it all cleaned up. The powder flask, capper, and powder measure also arrived today. The powder arrived yesterday. I ordered 5 lbs. of Goex to get the cost down, 2 lbs. of ffg and 3 lbs. of...

    Thompson Center Hawken kit

Thanks, I will check out a factory gun to make sure I get that part right. I thought this kit would be a good one to practice on. Eventually I want to get one of Jim Kibler's kits to build a nice flintlock.

    Thompson Center Hawken kit

Thanks everyone. I will definitely take my time with it. That was a good suggestion that was made on adjusting the fit before finishing the wood. I will definitely check that. I have come to like Formby's Tung Oil on other gun stocks I have finished, so think I will try that. It will only cost...

    Thompson Center Hawken kit

I am getting a TC Hawken kit that is an older one from the 70's. I know it is not a true build like some of you all do, but this will be my first time building one. It is a 5112 .45 cal. cap lock. I think I will send the barrel and steel parts out to be hot blued. Any tips, or anything I should...

    Pietta 1851

I picked up some .451 balls and #10 caps. I ordered some fff Goex today. I ordered a powder measure, a capper, and a powder flask. Just waiting on the gun and everything else to come in. Looking forward to shooting it.

    Pietta 1851

I just watched some of his videos. They are very good and show everything from loading to cleaning and complete disassembly. Thanks for sharing. I really like the Dragoon he was shooting. Maybe that will be my next one.

    Pietta 1851

Thanks for posting that tutorial. Everything looks to be fairly straightforward. I think I will measure the powder though. As for the screw drivers, I have that covered. I need the powder flask, capper, and maybe a measure and nipple wrench, and of course my gun. March 1st is the delivery date...

I will have to order black powder as far as I know, there is no one around me that carries it. I am wanting to get a flintlock, so I guess I will need to order some anyways.

    Pietta 1851

Thanks for the replies everyone. Sounds like I will need to wait until I get the gun to see what size balls I will need for it. Will Pyrodex be OK to use in this gun or do I need to get some real black powder like a Goex?

    Pietta 1851

Cabela's had the 1851 Confederated Navy .44 with extra cylinder on sale so I ordered one. I have never owned or shot a black powder pistol. What do I need for this gun as far as round ball, powder and primer?
