An ill-used Zouave in the house

I use the Easy Off process myself. Works like a charm and the hosing down takes out minor dents in the wood. Larger dents are not as large. Great if you don't want the wood to look sanded.

Barber pole stripe on a ramrod.

I heard that it was done to carbonize the wood and make it stronger. Of course not setting fire to it until it breaks but just a bit. Maybe if the wood did not have straight grain this process might help.

Thompson Center Hawken hurts my face

Well went to the range and tried shooting off hand and from the bench. Still got smacked. Added a slip on rubber butt pad that gave me an extra inch. Still no bueno. Added 1/4 inch thick sponge to the comb and BINGO!. No pain. So next will be lowering the crown as per Waksupi. I really...

Thanks for the link. The TC trigger guard with the spur looks similar to this Hawken. Pricey!

It is my cheekbone that is getting walloped. However I will try not to put my face over the stock but more maybe on the side. Thanks for the input!

Thompson Center Hawken hurts my face

I think that might be the permanent answer. My nephew is a wood worker and we will do this. Thank you! I knew there were people out there with a similar problem. Thanks again!

Someone I just spoke to said you might have a problem with the drop at the comb.

Thompson Center Hawken hurts my face

It was a round ball shot off the bench. Recoil is not great it is where it is deposited on my face that is annoying. I do not hold my guns loosely just for that reason. I would rather be pushed than punched.

Thompson Center Hawken hurts my face

Yes, I had a New Englander and had no problems. I think I will keep the face I was issued:eek:. My mom said she liked my face but I think she was kidding.

Thompson Center Hawken hurts my face

I have a TC Hawken and when fired with any decent charge it hammers my cheek bone. A friend said that it might be the shape of my face so he took it and tried it. He came back with a small blue bruise on his cheek bone. The charge was 70 grains of ffg. Has anyone else had this problem and if...

    Navy Arms Zouave

If you can find the Lee wadcutter minie ball your gun should shoot well. My nephew and I both have zouaves and we don't know why we would bother to shoot any other minie. They work well with pyrodex and black. The mold is hard to find. I believe it is #90475

    Traded Into a Zouave Today

I have a Euroarms Zouave and love it. Since I use it more for competition than hunting I found that this gun really likes 50 grains of Fg powder and either a wadcutter minie or old style union minie and a .562 ball with .020 patch. Didn't seem to be picky about lube. Make sure you set the...

Smoke pouring from barrel after fired

Thanks guys for all your input. I guess bottom line is that it is not dangerous and just a specific thing with that gun. Thanks again!!! (probably would not happen with black but he is stuck on pyro.)

    Paper Cartridges For Hunting

Yes, I have gone down range and stomped out smoldering paper before the wind could take it some place dry. I am sure there is a cure for this but scary none the less.
