    Cleaning Patch to shoot?

I just reviewed my old testing log-book with patch experiments using a 54 cal Great Plains.(.535 and .530 balls) The denim patch notes all say " Bad Groups" in big letters. I also tried doubling up thin patches and that showed bad groups as well. For some reason the blue jeans patched shots...

Enfield 61 carbine , getting better

What says the peanut gallery ,,,,, Should a minie have a little more friction going down a clean barrel than darn near falling down the hole? I was able to push a powder-less minie back out the bore by snapping three or four caps. No powder, just caps.....

Enfield 61 carbine , getting better

There is a little wiggle space even when the rear screw is as tight as it can go.... Maybe I will try shimming the barrel and bedding the stock by the rear screw..... I wish I knew how to do a trigger job on this thing.... It has a 12 pound pull.....

Enfield 61 carbine , getting better

Try Patrick Kaboskey,262-363-4625 [email protected] Tell him that Alex in Alaska said to call. His bullets are perfect.... not a bubble or wrinkle in the bunch...

Enfield 61 carbine , getting better

Well the struggle with the Parker Hale made 1861 artillery carbine continues. With the lack of good soft lead here in Alaska. ( yeah odd ) I bought a couple hundred Minie' bullets from the Civil War Bullet Man. This 24 inch carbine is not as easy to shoot for groups as is a regular long...

    Kroil for lock lubrication?

Tetra Gun Lube. It leaves a very slippery film for a long time. I have field tested it to 60 below zero. Although it smells like the trunk of an old car that has had a body inside of it.....

    1st flinter suggestions

I was suspecting that was the case. Cherry's carries the Frontier on their web site for $45 less than DGW, but they also list it as special order... I think that Shooters Choice and Flintlocks Etc also carry the Frontier at a good price. Too bad they don't make it in 40 cal. After some late...

    1st flinter suggestions

I see that DGW has smaller caliber Pedersoli Frontier rifles. Cabela's only goes down to 45 caliber... For some reason the DGW rifles are $200 more.... maybe Cabelas has some sort of deal were the features are not exactly the same...

    .32 round ball for deer

A .310 ball only weighs 45 grains. Like a 22 LR bullet. With a muzzle velocity of 1,950 fps, it is only going around 1500 fps at 50 yards. Inhumane and un-sportsman like...

    1st flinter suggestions

Are the Pedersoli locks good enough from the factory or are they some of the ones that require re-heat treating to work correctly? I thought I read an article someplace where somebody had to change a few angles to get a good spark shower.

    1st flinter suggestions

I already own a couple 58s and one 54cal GPR. But real soft lead and real black powder are difficult to find up here these days(particularly over the past 4-5 years...... So What I do have in my stock needs to go a long ways. I have re-milled some old blasting powder to make something close to...

    1st flinter suggestions

I would like to keep it $900 or less. Caliber does not matter since it would only be making holes in paper. I like old classic styling Penn style or Kentucky squirrel rifle style. I do not know enough about locks and metal re-hardening to have to rebuild one just to make it work...

    1st flinter suggestions

I have owned a few percussion cap rifles over the years , BUT I have never owned a Flintlock. So now that I am getting geezer like, it seems like a good idea... Any suggestions for a hassle free first flintlock rifle. It will probably just make holes in paper....

    Whoops with my Lyman Rifle.....

If you have a tight brush that does not want to back-out of the bore because the bristles are flexed backwards,,,,, try turning (twisting) the rod first ( in the direction which makes the threads tighter) and then pull back as you turn.... The bristles will flex to the side and the brush will...

    Shot my GPR again.

How do you do the pencil hardness test on lead? I have used a pencil hardness method for paint and other wood finishes,,, But you must be talking about something different.

Finally shot my GPR, some questions.

My 54 caliber Lyman Great Plains also had very sharp rifling.... I used some JB Bore Compound and watched a movie while I ran the JKB back and forth through the bore. Then I cleaned the heck out of it... Mine is also very particular about the patch thickness when it comes to accuracy...

    Nipple wrench for stuck PH

It sure looks that way.... Maybe a good winter time project. Right now I have to go fix a bad leak in the port side float of my plane. One of my clients went right instead of left and ran the plane up onto a big log with a spike sticking out of it.
