    Cobbled up Mountain Rifle

I had been collecting up some parts for a no name Spanish 33 1/2” barrel I bought several years ago. I started assembling it a while back. The stock I got for it is a cva Mt. Rifle that had a hooked breech piece that I removed since the barrel had a tang. I fitted an older cva flint lock that...

    Locust ramrod?

I’ve been collecting parts a while and am assembling a hybrid flintlock mountain rifle. I was thinking about the ramrod Rod possibilities and in doing so have learned that locust wood is 40% stronger than hickory. I was surprised to read that knowing that hickory was a favorite for tool handles...

    Mail Order Pietta 1860 Army

I recently took advantage of DGW's summer sale and bought a Pietta 1860 Army. I was really pleased with the fit and finish. They seem to have upped their game since my research of reviews show folks are mostly happy and say they are much better than the older ones they put out. Most complaints...

    Long gun work stand

I have started building a long gun work stand that I can clamp to my desk. My basement work bench just stays too cluttered to fool with :headslap: . It is fairly light weight (pine) and similar to the diy cam lock style. I'll post a pic later if any are interested.

    18th century fowler hdware question

The flintlock hardware (furniture?) I bought for my fowler project is mostly semi-rough from casting. The ramrod tubes are smooth (all is steel). To be period correct as much as I can, should the rough cast parts be smoothed or the tubes roughed to match? (the lock is an L&R QA)

A sixty two or a fifty eight

I mentioned in another post that I had bought an Octagonal to Round .62 (as advertised) barrel from an ebay seller that claimed he was a gunsmith an had this barrel left from a build. His customer changed his mind about barrel length. The other day I was measuring around on the barrel and...

Need ID help for 33.5" oct rifle barrel

I have a 45cal 15/16" oct 33.5" long (Same as my CVA Kentucky) barrel. It hasn't been side drilled yet so may have been a replacement for either a PC or flint. Thing is... there's only one barrel under-lug 14.5" from the muzzle, and it's the drilled hole type spot-welded on. Bottom muzzle flat...

    Hammer to nipple squareness

I noticed that my hammer strike face is off square of the nipple by about 4 degrees ccw looking straight on from the right side. Now this is without a cap on. I am wondering if I am losing a little of the ignition or does it matter that much about a 'square on' contact strike? (Gun is a CVA .45...
