    Shot my GPR again.

    it has just been my experience to use tin in my rifle bullets that it improves the fill out in the lube grooves and I have less rejects and very sharp bullets. A little tin does wonders, I also use Linotype to push my velocities higher. Never got into the water dropping them since I never get...

    Shot my GPR again.

    Yes I added the tin to aid in fillout. I have been casting bullets for years and a little tin really helps with fill out, plus makes them purty. I just added to much since I only had it in large ingots. Might go out again this AM.

    Shot my GPR again.

    http://castboolits.gunloads.com/showthread.php?75455-Testing-hardness-with-pencils&highlight=pencil+test Same way I would imagine as with paint. A lot cheaper them a tester.

    Shot my GPR again.

    Solved a lot of problems since the last time. FIrst off my RB's were too hard. I added too much tin and didn't think it a big problem until I tested the hardness. They came up being as hard as WW using the pencil hardness test. Casted a fresh batch with pure and just a little time added and...

    Finally shot my GPR, some questions.

    Yes it was a NOS rifle. I read about the preservative and did a good cleaning prior to shooting it. Thanks for the tips. Think I will switch to BP that I have and try some wet patches and see how it goes.

    Finally shot my GPR, some questions.

    Finally got it out. Using about 65 grains of triple seven and patches lube with 4-1 ratio of ballistol to water and a .490 lead ball. First thing I noticed, using the .015 size patch it was very difficult to get it in the barrel so switched to the .012 patches. (both ticking material from...

    Nipple ignition hole size

    Okay thanks, won't mess with it. If I could just find the time to go shoot.

    Nipple ignition hole size

    Just replaced my nipple with a new stainless one. I noticed the ignition hole was smaller then the stock one. Should I enlarge the new one or try it first?

    Size of ignition hole in nipple

    Just got a new stainless nipple for my GPR. I noticed the hole is smaller then the stock nipple. Should I leave it and see how it works or drill it out a little?

    Ratio of ballistol to water for patches

    Looked thru a bunch of post on this and got anywhere from 6 to 1 and 1 to 6 for the ratio. What ratio works best for you?

    What size should my roundballs be?

    Yes its a GPR. I have been shooting and reloading smokless for 30 plus years. I have done a lot of reading here on the board and learned a lot, just never have fired one on my own. I got a buddy that wants me to come out to his place. He has his own range and even an inside bench (ac and...

    What size should my roundballs be?

    Just cast up some .490 rb's. I have never fired a muzzle loader so the dumb question. The balls will just roll into the bore, without a patch of course. I assume this is okay and the patch material will take up the slack.

    Ticking

    "Currently, I am using a mix of beeswax and whale oil." Where you getting the whale oil, or should I ask?

    width to cut ticking for patches

    Found my answer, post it on the wrong forum, thanks.

    width to cut ticking for patches

    went out over lunch and got two thicknesses of ticking to use as patch material. How wide should I cut the strips for my .50 GPR? or should I tear them vs cut?

    remove or not remove barrel

    Do most of you remove the barrel to clean after shooting or leave it on?

    using triple seven

    I dont have a problem with cleaning after corrosive, I have done it for years with old surplus ammo with no problems, I was just hoping to avoid doing it as often as I break in the rifle shooting every few days or every week end. I was just under the impression that it would not be neccesary...

    using triple seven

    Damn, so triple 7 will corrode too? I have reloaded for upwards of 30 years and but only in the last 5 seriously since I started casting my own boolits. I keep good records and find the right combo that works well. I ordered two lee mold 490 and 495 RB. They're cheap so got both. Got the...
