    a couple of years ago, i bought a cva lh fl hawkens in 50 cal that had surface rust in the bore. i cleaned it(hot water and soap) and i've shot about 400-500 times. it will last me a lifetime. the only thig bad about it, is the patches, .005 or .010" . when i go .010" it only shoots 3 or 4...

    Breech plug removal on old flintlock

    i would jim evans method. try it for few days, before breech plug. if you are like me, like dropping things, breaks screws, mars finish...... take it to a gunsmith.

    the touch hole stays the same, the long breech "hole" is drilled out a little bit more. if its going 1/2" breech hole, he will use 5/16" drill bit.

    my dad does that, but it still hang fired. on another note, my dad has drilled the breech plug out to fit his 2f. it still hang fires, but its more like fzizboom.

    i found mine at an auction last year for $125. left hand cva hawken fl in 50 cal. the inside of the barrel had surface rust, but i cleaned it up. it shoots great.

    i used goex 2f in my barrel and in the pan goes goex 4f, but when thats done, i'm going to try 3f either scheuten or swiss. i have 3/4 lb of goex 4f and that will last years.

    years ago, i had a german agate flint that just luvs to make sparks. i'd guess that it would go 200 times and up? i had to replace the frizzen because the agate was too hard.

    i would "guess" that smoothbores outnumbered the rifles. buck and ball usually denotes what they would have at that time.

    thats a great shooting technique!!!!! i am a left handed shooter. when i was 13yo, my dad got me a right handed flintlock in tc hawkins. i closed my eyes for the flash for 2 years until i got a left hand fl in lyman deerstalker. it took me about a year to keep my eyes open.

    neither do i. i have 10 roundball patches that are impregnated with sno seal. next time i go to the shop, i will shoot them.
