    Went to the range

before the showers started. It's taken me nearly 2 years of trying different sights, rb's, patch's, and powder, but it's starting to look good.

    Hammer stalls

Another post, where the shooter unfortunately lost a finger due to having primed and then loaded his gun, led me to ask this question. I don't care whether you think it's PC or not, do you have/use a hammer stall on your flintlocks? Some of you, I know, prime first. When you're using a paper...

    Dixon's purchases

Here are the items I purchased at the Gun Maker's Fair. The larger knife I got at off a trade blanket at a recent Rev War event. I think the horn is interesting, still holds powder too.

Historically correct Rev War era rifle?

If you needed to build one, what components would you choose? Does anybody offer one in a component kit?

Escape from Wyoming July 2010 video

I have posted some video from our recently completed event "Escape from Wyoming" of this year. Yeah, the tram isn't 18th century, but I needed to show how we transported the public around the site. CoVouusRfM0

    Flash but no boom

I was shooting my .54 smoothbore yesterday. First couple of shots went off with no problem. Then I developed the pan flash and no main charge ignition. I had to re-charge the pan 3 - 5 times, cleaning the touch hole out each time. I heard of the white lightnin' touch hole liner and ordered one...

    Sharpe series?

I saw a whole set of the movies in this series for sale at Sam's Club. Now I see a new one is on TV Sunday night, on PBS. Are these any good, compared to any other black powder movies?

    Hardening a frizzen

I've heard of the Kasenite method, but not this one. What do you think? http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TKKhIOx707M

    Unusual horn

A friend of mine sent me this picture. He took it in the oldest house in Laceyville PA, built in 1781 for a Capt.Smith of the 24th Conn. Militia. I don't know what kind of animal it was made from, but it sure looks unique! I believe it's a priming horn, judging from the size.

    Rev war photos

No silly, not real ones, but ones of reenactors. This guy has been at several of the events my unit has been at. He has a real talent for photography, in my opinion. http://www.americanrevolutionphotos.com/ I'm in the Newtown photos #33 and #39, and Raid on Wyoming #1 -extreme left. :hatsoff:

    Drums Along the Mohawk

I found a copy of the book today, enscribed with the date of March 1937, in an antiques shop, for the measly price of $1.00. I always thought it was about the F&I War but much to my surprise, it's the Rev War era. Belonging to a frontier Rev War reenactment unit, I'm sure to enjoy it. Anyone...

    .54 Smooth bore load

Ok, I got back from the range a second time now and, to put it mildly, the accuracy stinks. :barf: I have .520 round balls (one arc of the ball is flat where the sprue was?) that I bought at Dixon's and have tried .10, .12, and .15-.17 patches with Wonderlube. Most every shot has been way (1...

    TOW black powder solvent

Anybody try this stuff? I usually use Butch's solvent but always looking for better (please, no lectures :nono: on how I should only use Stumpy's or hot/cold/lukewarm water). :surrender: Thanks...

    First one

Three seasons ago, in PA's flintlock season, I went out with my new .50 rifle that I had built that summer. It had snowed and then sleeted a little over-night so that the ground was a bit crunchy walking in. I set up a little after daylight. A light snow began to fall. Sitting back against a...

    Pedersoli Bess breech plug removal

I've removed breech plugs on other guns, but not this one. When I "pinged" the barrel the other day, I got a good bounce, per usual, but I also used to get a sharp "ping". Instead, I got more of a "thunk", but still a good bounce. My friend noticed the difference right away. I cleaned it again...
