New Uberti 1861 Navy from Midway. Buyer Beware!

I struggled with Rems for awhile until some lady showed me how. ;) I still prefer the Colt’s grip (Ubertis), and mine only come apart in 3 pieces, the wedge Never leaves the bbl assembly.

New Uberti 1861 Navy from Midway. Buyer Beware!

Funny how at about 4 pages the comments start over- I guess no one wants to read ALL the posts before commenting. Thanks PB for the cautionary tale, I would do the same as you. But then I detail strip, clean, deburr and tune every new cap and ball revolver I buy before it ever sees the range...

    Percussion Hammer Cam (Divot)?

What a Great thread! Two of my favorite things- wheel guns and warbirds! Learning lots of helpful timing tips, gonna dig out my Kuhnhausen book too. All this Jug talk reminds me of the show “ Dogfights!” One of the Jug jockeys absolutely did Not fit the stereotype of a cocky fighter pilot, he...

Where to find 1mm or .037 flat spring steel

I ordered 3 thicknesses of annealed sheet 1095 from McMaster Carr, wasn’t terribly expensive. I measured sear springs, frizzen springs and mainsprings and got an 8x12” sheet of each. McMaster Carr ships extremely fast- after ordering it’s usually on the porch already. In fact, one time I...

    What is this stock?

That’s some incredible luck! I have a complete CVA kit from a fella who cut the stock shorter thinking he’d build it for his wife. When he held the buttplate to it he put it back in the box and gave up on it. I’d carve a new one from a blank but after all that it’s still a CVA. One of these daze...

    Two piece full stocks

I assume they made 2 piece stocks in order to keep the shipping boxes short. I had to plug and redrill my pins because they missed it by a lot. That brass spacer drove me so nuts I eventually carved a curly maple plank for it. One piece of course.

Why are Uberti pistol boxes so flimsy?

If you think Italian gun boxes are rickety, try moving a piece of IKEA furniture. Most only make it to the curb where they get a “Free to good home “ sign taped to them

Ram rod wont go all the in....im stumped!

I did the same as Krewson, but I didn’t have a borescope then. Took a little head scratching but eventually I stumbled onto it- the rear pin tenon needed filing. I also acquired several sizes of 4 foot drills to clean out chips and dust and check depth.

    Bore Seasoning

There is definitely seasoning cast iron, which is quite porous with lots of interstices to hold ”lube”. Ask anyone from pre Teflon days who scrubbed Ma’s favorite frying pan with hot water and detergent wrecking her seasoning job. Back then she was allowed to clobber the kid upside the head with...
