    A little Independence Day salute...

Off the front porch. My sons and nephews loved it!!! Brown Bess carbine, 100 grains FF Goex with a paper wad. Did it about ten times before we decided to put it away. We can get away with a little more mischief than usual tonight, but why push our luck?

It's a Springfield kind of Christmas!

We have a tradition where we open one gift on Christmas Eve before church. The wife and kiddos surprised me with a Pedersoli 1861 Springfield musket! Quite a surprise, indeed! Now I have to get my kit together. I haven't had a percussion gun in ten years so I have to start fresh. I have...

    Rifled barrel to smooth bore?

I've got a Pedersoli/Cabela's Blue Ridge flinter in .50cal that I picked up in a trade several years ago. I don't shoot it anymore because the bore has a bad spot in it and it is hard to load and not very accurate. I believe improper cleaning and storage on the prior owners part led to a rusty...

I need a new muzzleloader But what should I get?

My problem is that I'm a student of and enamored with so many different eras of history. I have a Brown Bess, and a couple of long rifles. I've had and traded more Hawkens and CW muskets over the years than I care to remember. Maybe I need an 1803? Or an Enfield? Too many choices...

    No Spark????

I'm starting to have troubles with my Pedersoli Brown Bess not sparking. I get good ignition for the first five or six shots, then absolutely nothing. I've checked the flint and made sure ot was tight in the jaw. I've reknapped it for a nice, sharp edge. I've cleaned the frizzen, wiping away...

    Working on Ol' Bess

Lots of snow last night, so we're all tucked in warm in the house. The coon dogs are sleeping at my feet, bluegrass on the radio and my Brown Bess getting a long over due deep clean and tune. Knapping some flints and tidying up my shooting bag. Ahhh... life is  good...

Hello the camp! Greetings from Nebraska Territory.

Flatwater here. I live waaay out west in the Nebraska Panhandle. I've dabbled or been otherwise involved in muzzleloading since I was a wee one. I primarily shoot flinters, but I've snapped a cap a time or two. I hope to learn plenty and make some new friends.
