    Lamb's tallow

This lamb's tallow is pretty hard. So if I use it I will probably cut it down a bit with olive oil. Thanks for the input.

    Lamb's tallow

I just got some lamb's tallow, but I find it is very stiff (hard) in consistency to easily use. How do you guy use this stuff?

    .610 chewed balls

I am using 90 grains FFG in my 20 guage with a PRB and am getting very tight groups out to 40 yards. I have tried lighter loads and the groups open up considerably. So for my gun 90 grain load for PRB is the right one, in this case less powder is less accuracy. Steve

Report on new Pedersoli Trade Musket

Thanks for the reply, The first thing I did after ensuring the lock sparked OK was to drill out the vent liner to 1/16" as I do with my other flinters. I now have my shot load! 75 grains ffg 2 over powder cards #6 shot (square load) in a paper cup 1 over powder card. I am getting great...

Report on new Pedersoli Trade Musket

It arrived last Friday. Out of the box it was what you would expect from Pedersoli, good wood, good fit, and good parts. BUT... The lock had problems. It sparks very well, but the angle that the flint hit the frizzen was almost straight on. I bent the cock a bit and now I have a good angle...

    Mike Belliveau Load

PHi Guys, I started this discussion and the question I asked was based on my ignorance of the smooth bore world, but I'm learning. Let me be clear, no one has said anything that has come close to offending me. I'm listening to all opinions. Thanks Steve

    Mike Belliveau Load

In the latest Muzzleloader magazine and in one of his videos Mike Belliveau advocates 100 grains ffg and 2 ounces of shot in his 20 gauge. What are your thoughts?

    Pedersoli Trade Musket

Just ordered a Pedersoli Trade Musket from DGW (on sale for $795) and need to order a few things from TOTW. I need to know: 1. What size flints will I need to order 2. I probably will want to make a new ramrod (wiping stick) and need to know thimble size on the gun. Can anyone help me...

    Fouling shot

Vacca Rabite, Telephone book paper may be too thick, but try it. You would only need it for the first shot out of a clean barrel. After that just a straight patch. Ciggy paper can be bought most anywhere. Steve

    Fouling shot

I had the same problem. First shot would be wild, but the following shots were great. I tried a thicker patch and the problem went away. I also tried putting a cigarette paper between the ball and the patch and that also worked like a charm. The cigarette paper effectively increased the...

Percussion misfire- bear won I lost

Thats why I switched to a flintlock. Hold the trigger back as you cock the hammer. Tooth pick in the nipple, add alcohol, pull the tooth pick and let it flush itself out. Blow through barrel to ensure there is no blocksge

    My first flintlock too!

I purchased the L&R lock for my Traditions (same as CVA) and it is a fine lock. I get a good spark and flints last a long time. When I ordered the lock I was told it was not a direct drop in, but need a bit of shaping of either the lock plate itself or the stock. This is indeed the case, it...

    Types of lead?

Remember that whatever projectile you use it has to be larger than the cylinder in order to seal the chamber off and prevent a chain fire. A chain fire occurs when all the cylinders go off at once. A .375 bullet is normal for a 36 caliber C&B. Steve

    Types of lead?

It is not a good idea to use modern propellants (smokeless powders) in a C&B. Way too much pressure!

    Types of lead?

Sorry, you can not remove tin or antimony from lead alloy. You can add pure lead to an alloy and that will soften your alloy up a bit. Pure lead has a hardness of of 5 on the Brinnel hardness scale (BHN). Wheel weights have a BHN of 9 when allowed to be air cooled. Wheel weights can become a...

    ??? flint vs percussion

Hello everyone! I am new here and am thinking of trying the flint route. I have been shooting percussion for about 40 years off and on so I know a bit about black powder. I have 2 questions: 1. After the learning curve, are flinters as reliable as percussions? By that I mean ignition. 2...

    FFG vs FFFG

Why is FFFG better in smaller calibers than FFG? My guess is the finer grained FFFG gives a better burn in smaller calibers thus giving more consistent velocities and less fouling. Still don't know why that would be though. Any thoughts? And thanks Steve
