    traditions hawken

Update: my fault the caps didn't go off. I took the lock off to see what the innards looked like and I guess I didn't replace it right. It works well now. BTW, this Crockett came with a crowned muzzle, and two lock bolts.

    traditions hawken

Review: Well, I bought the Traditions .32 Squirrel Rifle. I would rather have a kit but I couldn't find one online. I was pleased to see the well fit/inletting of the parts. It has a pat. breech, not the drum/nipple some other low cost rifles have. The lock has a leaf mainspring...

    Traditions Hawken kit

I was eyeballing a Traditions Hawken kit , $319.00 It looks like an very easy kit, almost a snap together . Like I need another kit, or gun even. I have 2 somewhat partially completed projects (Tryon rifle, and asmoothie from blanks but I have lost a lot of interest.. I have built 12 or so...

    trigger pull measurement

I have a Zouave that the trigger pull was measured at a NMLRA match to be too light to compete in the musket match. I installed a new sear spring, which I believe will cure that. However, what is a good way to test the pull?

    silar upgrade

How has your result been on the large Silar lock upgrade? I am a target shooter, but not a real serious target shooter, so am curious if the expense is really worth it ? ?

    Short Barrel Hawken

I believe T/C did a similar test and determined the 28" bbl was a kind of optimum for efficiency and gun wt. I think the info was in their brochure included with the new rifle. Yes, the longer bbl was better, but .........

    Swaged roundball inconsistency ...

Meh, I do weigh balls, only the ones for 100 yds or more. I have shot many 25 yd targets and it made no difference whether I was using weighed balls or random ones from the bag. You guys may see a difference in accuracy, but I did not. :shocked2:

    reuse shotgun bbl

A year or so ago we had a thread about using old shotgun bbls for muzzleloaders. I did use one on a trade gun. I cut off the chamber end and re-threaded. Just thinkin', what do you think about not cutting off the chamber , but grinding the edge of the chamber. smoothing it there. It...

Aqua Fortis on Plain Maple ??

Somewhere I read of using walnut stain first, which will bring out the curl. then go with AF. I have done that and it came out okay. kinda antiqued the piece.

    linen patching

Anyone here using linen successfully for patching? I know it has been discussed before but I used the search with no luck. I have a small amount but it is of course thin, almost threadbare. Every piece I have found is the same, thin.

    Kansas City Shops

If you use more than one lb. a year you may want to go to a Osage ML club shoot and maybe buy several pounds from the club, if they sell it. I go to several shoots and buy powder from the club.

    Fabric for patches

Speaking of thin linen, I was in an antique shop and hanging on a mannequin was a nightgown with the "robe" over it. The two layers of linen were so thin you could tell if a dime was heads or tails thru both garments. Closer inspection showed it was not worn out, but hardly worn, if ever. It...
