    Wire inlay tools?

Thanks Galamb, making the tools thinner than the wire makes sense to me! Does the super glue have any effect on the staining or finish on the stock? Thanks again! JT

    Wire inlay tools?

Been wondering about the tools to inlay wire. I'm aware of the various materials to make the tools, I have seen them made from hacksaw blades, xacto blades, pallet strapping etc.. My question is how thick should the tool be if I'm inlaying .014 thick wire? How about .008 thick wire? The...

    What size vent liner?

Thanks for the replies. I went with the 5/16, cause I had it. It worked fine, centered between flats. It did run into barrel/breech threads just like Zonie stated. I shortened the liner so it wouldn't interfere with the threads. Thanks again JT

    What size vent liner?

I have a 7/8 straight barrel in .45 caliber. I bought a 5/16-32 White Lightning vent liner. After thinking more about it and physically having the liner in my hand, I think I should go with the 1/4 inch liner. The 5/16 liner looks big. I would think the bigger liner would be an advantage as far...

Thanks Mitch, I'm going to brew a couple different recipes tonight. I made alot of sample pieces to play/experement with! Two more questions, if ya don't mind. In your experience, what effect did changing the proportion of water/acid have, I'm guessing less water darker wood, more water lighter...

    Need Advice on Stock Staining

Mitch, Thanks for your recipe. A couple qustions if you don't mind. I'm working on my first build and very nervous about messing up a pretty piece of wood! You mentioned wrought iron in your recipe, so naturelly I Google wrought iron. From what I gather, wrought iron doesn't have any carbon it...

    What barrel do I have

I picked up what I am told is a Rayle barrel. The problem is, it is not marked at all. I would like to know what the twist on this barrel is, but can't find info on twist that Rayle used for .45 cal. How can I tell if it is a Rayle barrel? Why wouldn't a barrel maker put something (not...

    Curly maple pictures

Looks good to me, but you know who I would ask! What would it cost to take it to a sawmill and have them slab it?

    That Pesky Breach Plug

I just got done breeching my barrel, I used the file the little burr, re-install, file little burr method. This was the first time I have ever breeched a barrel and it was easy, quick and I am very pleased with the results. I believe if you bottom tap the barrel, you would still have to file the...

    What chisels are your favorites

I'm a newb and just trying to figure out what chisels I will be needing to build my first rifle. I am going with a pre-inletted (barrel & lock) stock in the Lancaster school. I am also going to try to carve (not on the stock, just yet!). Also, and this question has probably been asked, where do...
