    Lock Finish

I am almost done with one of Jim's colonial rifles and was wondering what to do with the lock. I want darken it with his patina solution. Do I sand the rough off or let it the way it was cast and darken it a little?

    Bone Black

Does anyone have experience using this? I am looking for a little guidance on applying this with the finish. I have watched Jim's videos on this several times. Maybe a few photos would be helpful to see what areas to apply it to. Thanks.

    Slotting Barrel Lugs

I have the holes drilled for the pins and the next step is to slot the holes. Kibler`s videos show him using a jewellers saw to make the slot. What size blade should I order to do this? Is there an alternate method that I could use instead? I don't mind ordering the saw and blades if that is...

    Used TC Hawken.

There was a local estate sale today. Among the dozen or so guns was a TC 50 caliber flint Hawken. The bidding started at 200. I jumped in but soon I got out. The bidding ended at 475. It was a clean rifle, good bore as far as I could see. A little surface rust around and in the pan, could be...

    Cut some patches today.

I ground off the teeth from an 1 1/4" hole saw. Then sharpened the edge, chucked it in a drill and cut out patches. Worked slicker than a handful of slobbers.

    Market Fair rifle.

I purchased a used rifle yesterday at the Fort Frederick Market Fair. It's a 45 with a 38" barrel. Looks like a small Siler lock, correct me if I am wrong. I have ordered a jag and breech scraper from TOTW. On my travels for work this week I will get a pound of 3f and see how shoots.

    Contemporary?

Could you please explain what contemporary means when referring to rifles or a maker. Is it different than traditional or are they similar?

    Gun builders clinic?

Does anyone offer classes on gun building? To a first time builder this would be invaluable . I have done this with weekend clinics on horsemanship. While you can't learn everything in a weekend or week, in can be another tool to add to your toolbox.

    Tin box.

The small tin that some on this forum have in their shooting bags look like altoids mint boxes. I hope I am correct. I have a dozen of them I use for lots of little things.

Where can I find beeswax? I looked in a few nests in the barn but they were empty or the bees had moved it.
