    Hunting Bag Construction ... "Hair-on"

I'm curious how "hair-on" hide is made into the flap of a hunting bag. Is the hide backed with anything or edged? I would also welcome any references or tutorials. Thanks much!

New book from Erhard Wolf - Jagd-Feuerwaffen

After no small amount of wrangling, bank visits and correspondence with Mr. Wolf, my copy of his second volume arrived yesterday. A follow-up from his first volume which dealt with Jaeger hunting rifles, this book goes further back, showcasing incredible artistry of matchlocks from the very...

New book from Erhard Wolf - German Jaegers

Just an update ... if you've tried to transfer funds for payment, you might try to use wise.com ... apparently easier and a lot less expensive and onerous than trying to work through your bank.

Erhard Wolf has just released his second volume related to German flintlock Jaegers. If it's like his first, the quality will be stunning. Worth a look ... https://jaegerbuechsen.com/en/home-2/

    L&R Locks - Current Quality?

I've been planning for a future build, and it appears that my lock choice is somewhat limited to L&R due to the style needed. I've read a number of more distant past posts related to their quality, which seems hit or miss. Some swear by them ... others at them. Where are they at today? Thanks!

I did find most of the parts, but did have to place an order with the Rifle Shoppe for the barrel and parts.

FOR SALE Austrian Lorenz 1856 Mainspring Needed

I've found a flintlock trade musket, which is missing it's mainspring. Apparently it's a conversion of an Austrian Lorenz 1856 percussion rifle to a flintlock. The lockplate is marked "856", and is missing it's mainspring. Looking for a replacement part. Thanks

WANTED Houston Harrison drawing of the "German Flintlock Rifle - Period 1700-1725"

Looking for a complete and clean copy of the L Houston Harrison drawing of the "unsigned early rifle", on page 51 of Moravian Gunmaking VII. It's not the same drawing that's available from Dixie, but the one titled as "German Flintlock Rifle - Period 1700-1725". Thanks! "Nailcreek"

Fusil de Chasse ... options & ideas?

Well, I've gone with the TOTW FdC, 44" barrel, iron mounts. I'm waiting on the walnut stock and lock. I was actually able to connect with the authors of the two authoritative books on the subject, as well as a few experts (Alex, included), so the fusil I hope to end up with will hopefully be a...

Fusil de Chasse ... options & ideas?

I've recently gotten interested in the French Fusil de Chasse smoothbore and have been poking around for reference information and quite possibly adding one the the collection. I'm on the search for what appears to be a key reference (in the WTB area) and have been searching the interwebs...

    Ferguson Rifle Build

Great thread ... and even better artistry. Courtesy of a gentleman on this forum and an order from TRS, I should have everything needed to build one this coming year. One question I do have is how those who've built one deal with the somewhat fragile stock design - glass bedding or?

WANTED Ferguson Rifle or parts taking up space in your safe?

Before I run down the particular rabbit hole that is the Ferguson rifle, I thought I'd put out a request to see if anyone might have a completed rifle or an unfinished project taking up space that they might be willing to part with. I'm looking for the standard version - or Ordnance rifle...

Early long rifle finishing - question

While many of the rifles built by today's artisans seem to have been finished with the intent to replicate an aged patina, what did the rifles actually look like new - and how might that have changed over time?
