    Black Powder in SW Idaho

Thanks Guys. I haven't had great experiences with pyrodex. It seems harder to ignite? I'm definitely no expert however. I used to buy black powder in the 90s. Just seems weird I cant find it anymore. I'd like to try it again. Cabelas doesn't carry it. Buffalo Arms in Ponderay is 500 miles from...

    Black Powder in SW Idaho

I have decided to switch back to BP from pyrodex. I haven't bought Black Powder in 20 years or so, now I'm having a hard time finding it. Any suggestions on where to find BP in the Boise area?

    hang fire

Ok thanks guys. Some new things to try. I am using pyrodex. I have thought about switching to black powder, but I haven't seen any around here in years. I flushed it with hot soapy water so I hope that clears it out. I use musket caps too.

    hang fire

I have a cabelas hawken in 50 cal that I took shooting for the first time this weekend. There was a delay in the cap going off and the gun discharging with every shot. I took it home and gave it a very thorough cleaning. Will this fix the hang fire? I haven't been able to shoot it again.

    TC Hawken find

I got a TC Hawken 45 cal. It likes 75 grains of pyrodex. Shoots a real nice group with a prb. Now if I could ever draw the muzzleloader pronghorn tag here in Idaho I'll be set.

    Arquebuses

I was just watching the history channel. They were talking about the Spanish driving out the moors in 1486. The were using arquebuses. I'm guessing a matchlock. But then they said that they were as loud as a jet taking off. My question is, is there any reason why these guns would be louder than...

    T/C Hawken

I picked up a used T/C Hawken .54 cal rifle the other day for a good price. It had been pretty neglected. It had a rusty barrel. I have always wanted a .58 cal. I was wondering about having it bored out to .58 and rifled. Does anyone know the cost of something like this? Also is there someone in...

    mountain man books

Thanks Pete D. I have read "The Last of the Mountain Men". Another good one is "The Ridge Runner". Its about a hermit that lived in the Clearwater and St. Joe National Forrests in northern Idaho. My neck of the woods.
