    The lock is the hardest thing to get right on these guns the lock that JJ Henry Artificers use is the best out there but I have a problem getting these locks so thats why I use the chambers late ketland lock and the rifle shop has most of the hardware this is one of the scroll guards that I build

    It looks like you have yourself a kiber kit these are very good guns and he did a very good job on it if that is one of jims kits. does the entry pipe have a skirt if not I just built one of his kits and I had to taper the ramrod for about 10" to make it work. The one I have has a rice barrel.

    I havent posted any thing on this site for a while so i Just finished this sweet little .36 from one of Jims kits I would sure like to keep this one. This has the 46" rice barrel, chambers ketland lock, poured pewter nose cap and a patch box. In a really nice English walnut stock.

    If you want a light nice handling barrel I would check out the A weight southern classic barrel in .50 cal. Jason builds at Rice Barrels I have used a lot of them and they make a nice 7# rifle don't know if tvm uses them but you could give it a try

    Just from what I have learned building and selling these guns is the silver hardware is hard to resale if you ever want to. But a swamped .50 cal barrel would be great for your type of hunting.

    chambers recommends you leave the lock uncocked and tighten the vice just enough to remove mainspring then loosen the vice. I used to put the lock at half cock and then put vice on but after three springs broke I took their advice.
