    Lyman Great Plains Hunter question.

Ha. I just looked at my GPR and it's the same way. I've had the gun for years and never noticed that before. I guess the inletting is just not done all that carefully?

    San Diego?

Yep. I live in San Diego. I shoot at Rainbow Range up near Temecula. Mainly my Lyman GPR and a couple Pedersoli muskets. I have a number of C&B revolvers, but haven't shot any of them in a while. What BP gun(s) are you staring with? Joe

Any Lyman Plains Pistol fans here?

I enjoy my .54. Especially when I want to do some BP pistol shooting, but don't feel like cleaning a cap-n-ball revolver.

    Seal new GPR stock?

When I got my GPR, I removed the barrel and all the furniture and applied several coats of Tru-Oil everywhere. I thought about doing a complete refinish but it looked like it was going to be a lot of work to strip the factory finish, so I just did the Tru-Oil.

    Slimmed Down Renegades?

Yeah, it's called the TC New Englander :haha:

    Lyman Great Plains Rifle questions

I like solid brass range rods. October Country sells a number of nice ones, as does The Possible Shop (I own rods from both these vendors).

    Speaking of Lyman GPR

I bought my .54 GPR a couple years ago.The stock is okay, but nothing special. Pretty sure it's walnut and the Lyman website still indicates such. It's stained pretty dark. Likewise, the metal polish and bluing is acceptable, but nothing great. Wood to metal fit is good, the double set trigger...

    Pedersoli Replacement Parts

The S&S rod is $53 shipped but for $20 more, I went with the OEM to ensure a good fit. I will look into fixing the broken rod to use as spare. Is Mapp gas hot enough to do a repair on this?

    Pedersoli Replacement Parts

Thanks for all the help. Pedersoli Italy responded to my inquiry and suggested I contact Mr. Beauchamp of Flintlocks, Etc., as did several of you good folks. I have done so and placed an order for a replacement Pedersoli 1861 Springfield ramrod. Turns out it was a $72.95 mistake...

    Pedersoli Replacement Parts

Hi Gus, Yes, the Pedersoli rod has that bulge. The damage is just below that point. See photo at link. http://s12.photobucket.com/user/joe4702/media/Pedersoli%20Ramrod/P1010323_zpsm4jza4ex.jpg.html Was hoping I could get a replacement from P., but if not, I'll take a look at the sources you...

    Pedersoli Replacement Parts

I ruined the ramrod on my NIB Pedersoli Springfield 1861. Anyone have any luck getting factory replacement parts like this from Pedersoli (or another source)? So far, no response to my inquiry through the Pedersoli website. I bought the gun from Cabelas mail-order. I was doing my typical new...

    Where to get #11 caps?

Sportsmans Warehouse in Phoenix (the one near I-17) had CCI, Remington and RWS #11 caps this weekend, as well as RWS musket caps. I mostly use #10s, but bought two tins of #11s to try as well as 2 tinsof musket caps. I resisted the urge to clean them out as I already have a decent supply and...

    range rod

I have Treso brass rods from here: http://possibleshop.com/g-c-cleaning-rod.html Working fine so far.

    How many do you have?

My standard answer to that question is "More than I need, not as many as I want."

    TOTW Shipping!

Their shipping prices have definitely gone up noticeably. I decided to re-order 100 510gr. Minie balls and the shipping was over $18, which works out to about $2.50 per pound. I know it wasn't that much when I ordered them last year. I tried adding 2 more bags (50 more rounds) to reduce the...

    Two-band Enfield

Good luck, hope you get it. I have the Pedersoli Enfield short rifle (musketoon) and it's a ton of fun to shoot.

    Great Service from T.O.W

I once ordered a couple bags of Minie balls from TOW. Must have been the dregs of the batch as they were dirty, beat up looking with many having damaged skits. I emailed a few photos and they sent me two new bags right away. I offered to send back the original bags as a good percentage of the...

    New GPR - not impressed

Sounds like QC is slipping at Investarms. I recently purchased a .54 GPR from Midsouth that exhibits some shoddy, disappointing workmanship. Based on comments and photos on this forum and others, it seems like the older Lyman guns may have been better made. Seems like that is true for a lot of...

    TC vs Traditions vs Lyman

I've got a Lyman Trade Rifle and a GPR, both bought new (recently) and an older TC New Englander and Renegade, bought used. The overall fit and finish is noticeably better on the TCs - nicer wood, smoother metal polish, nicer bluing and better inletting. Trigger pulls are comparable between...

    Refinishing GPR Stock

Wanted to give an update on this stock refinishing project. After re-reading all of the good advice on this thread, I decided to not sand the stock. The factory wood-to-metal fit is pretty good in most areas and I didn't want to chance messing that up. I applied chemical stripper to a small...
