    Sad but true....

Flint and sidelocks are almost non-existant in the big chain stores. I was up north for a family visit and enjoy shopping Cabelas in Dundee MI. I have purchased several muzzleloaders from them and been happy with quality and service. This past trip no flint or sidelocks were on the display wall...

    Richland .50 cal questions

I have a chance to bid on a Richland .50 cal tomorrow at an estate auction. I have seen the picture and the gun appears to be a half stock Hawken style. I Googled the maker and found very little on their muzzleloaders. Any advise and comments are welcome concerning quality and value.

    Castrato squirrels?

This season we took a lot of squirrels from one area. A nut tree grove that was over populated. The young males were castrated by the mother at birth as a way to control the population. We took several adult males missing their "bells" . I ask game warden and he told me the facts I presented...

    Turkey/ham shoot.

I am the one picked to arrange a turkey/ham shoot for our local volunteer fire department. I agreed to handle the shotgun-muzzle loader rules and oversee the results. Here is what I have done to address the in-line shooters that will expect to shoot in the primitive competition. I divided and...

    .45 cal pistol questions

Anyone have knowledge on a .45 single shot pistol marked "Dikar Spain .45 cal Black Powder only" on the barrel. The hammer and lock plate are made from a cast metal. Everything appears to be of lower quality than any gun I have owned. It shoots well, as well as a eight inch barrel can do. This...

    Need .69 cal jag

I can not find a cleaning jag for a .69 cal musket. Dixie Gun Works and all other commerical suppliers I have checked do not have them. The local machine shop charges a $40 dollar minimum to tool for any job. I have been cleaning with a .58 and multiple patches to make up the difference. Thanks...

    brass framed pistols???

Some sellers advise against using brass framed Remington and Colt patterned pistols. I have the Remington reproduction with a twelve inch barrel and theColt 1860. both are reproductions in the .44 cal. I have great accuracy with the Remington and so-so with the Colt. I fried 30 g charges or Goex...

Use for old worn out hole filled underware.

Those old worn out underware that the wife keeps pitching come back out the trash and become cleaning patches. Twist and cut to size with a pocket knife and you have the best cotton cleaning patches. Unless you wear wool underware, then you are more of a man than I am. Same for old socks.

    Steel shot through a smoothbore?

Question? Would firing steel shot, like BB's from a smoothbore pose any dangers. One of my hunting friends has a new 1842 Springfield and I have a small chest of Daisy BB's. I advised against it, because the steel would not flatten like lead moving through the barrel. Hail, next thing we shoot...

    Bullet question

I know some of you like to stay with period bullets. I on the other hand am a hunter and I place results over historical accuracy. my question is I will be ordering a Lee REAL for experminting in my Blue Ridge Pedersoli.50 flinter. Midway shooting supply offers both 250 and 320 grain molds. I am...
