    Lyman Left Hand Rifles

I have now heard a couple of times that Lyman is planning to quit making some or all of the left hand models, both percussion and flint, they have been making. Does anyone know if there is any truth to this and exactly which models they dropped or plan to drop. Thanks for the help.

Can Anyone Tell me what A pound Of Powder Cost in 1898

I was looking at some historical prices for stuff based on; I wish I lived back then thoughts. Interestingly enough, outside of taxes, pretty much everything else was actually more to far more expensive when converted to today's dollars. It would have taken quite a good income to live...

So why are there no pictures in the Classifieds

I used to look at the classified ads a lot and it was always great to be able to see quality pictures and not have to bother the seller. I bought quite a bit based on just what was in the ads. Lately there are no pictures and the vendors are indicating they can't up load them. Anyone now what...

    Swapping Hunts

Since you have to pay to use Classifieds I see that no one is posting hunting swaps there any more. How are people now arranging these. I would love to hunt some Wild Turkey and Hogs, both of which are in very short supply here in Alberta. We don't have a real primitive weapons season here for...

Carving and Shaping the Barrel Channel

The thread on the TOW pre-carved stocks with undersized barrel channels got me thinking; How many of you carve and shape your barrel channel to the exact Octagonal shape of the barrel, and how many just shape the sides and leave the bottom more or less round? How many of you use bedding compound...

I have been talking to Frank at Sitting Fox and the good news for us lefties is they are just finishing off a Left Hand Jaeger kit. 31" Swamped barrel 45 - 62 caliber, maple inlet stock, all fittings in iron or brass and optional sliding patch box. They are also looking at using a left hand...

    Top Quality Swamped Barrel

Thinking of doing a build and am looking for some opinions. I have read a lot of different posts lately about the quality of steel used in traditional muzzle loader barrels. The link is to Caywood Gun-makers website where he goes into a long dissertation on his poor opinion of the commonly...

    Aluminium Ramrods

BH Tool Company Just ordered 32 and 54 Calibre field rods, along with a screw on handle from these fellows. Looks good so will be interested to see how they actually work. Wanted a replacement for range and walk use that fit the ferules and didn't add a whole bunch of weight. Anyone else on...

    Myth of the Unreliable Flintlock

Well, turns out to be not so much of a myth. Attended a black powder shoot on the weekend as an observer, which gave me a far greater cross section than shooting with a few friends. Different than firing one round out of a well prepared gun hunting or shooting at the range with all the gear and...

    Taylor Sapergia

Left Hand Flintlock with two barrels, 54 and 62 caliber, L and R lock tuned by Taylor, spare tuned lock. No fancy carving or engraving but a beautifully built Hawkin style rifle. Gun was built about 15 years ago and has seen about 1000 rounds at rondy's. What would the collective wisdom of this...

Lancaster and English Sporting 42" Barrel

I have found a couple of left hand flintlocks for sale, one in 40 caliber Lancaster style the other in 58 English Sporting style, both with 42" Corelain non-swamped barrels. I am not close enough to be able to handle them and am worried that these really long barrels are going to be VERY muzzle...

    Patina on Metal

I know cleaning the Patina off of old guns is bad for their value. If you had one that was originally blued, very old and some Knob had sanded back to mostly white metal, what would be the best method of putting the patina back in place so it looked as original as possible. Thanks for any help.

Thinking of Traveling from Edm to one of the Big U.S. meets

I have an interest in going down attend something like Friendship, or Dixon's builders meet July 26, 27, 28th etc. I would like to go to something where there will be a lot of builders so I can look over, handle some of their work and get a chance to talk to a few. With any luck I will find...

Custom Left Hand Full Stock Hawken

I know this one picture makes it pretty hard to really get a good look at this gun, but I was wondering if the experts on here in Hawken design could tell me if they consider this a well crafted and designed full stock Hawken. Also, what would you think it would be worth, claim is that it cost...

    Pedersoli Quality

For anyone who doubts that factory made guns can be top quality you might want to have a look at this short press release from Pedersoli. I find it interesting that the HC/PC crowd is not overly impressed with these guns but it sure seems the target shooters are. Pedersoli and tthe World Muzzle...

Loading Direct From Horn or Flask

I have read a lot in this forum about "It is VERY dangerous to load direct from the flask or horn", even priming a flint pan one should use a small priming horn. First let me say I don't load direct from the flask or powder can, it first goes into an adjustable measure with a swinging funnel...

    Lyman Arperature Rear Sight 57SML

I have been looking at ordering a new Lyman arperature rear and globe front sight for my Lyman Deerstalker Percussion rifle, but so far the cheapest is TOW at $82 for the rear and $31 for the 17 AEU globe front, plus shipping. Lyman direct is $93 and $37. Anyone know a cheaper source for new or...

    Frizzen not flipping fully open

Gun was working pperfectly and has fired thousands of rounds. Flint is properly positioned, just shy of touching at half cock and producing good spark when fired. Moving frizzen by hand everythig seems normal. When I dry fire with flint, frizzen is only popping open about half way. Thoughts?

    Lyman Deerstalker Single Trigger

Just read a great Thread on the GPR trigger. The Davis replacement trigger is not very expensive and may be the easieast route but before I did that I wanted to check out fixes for the factory unit. So I am looking to see if you guys have any short cuts or easy fixes for the trigger on the new...
