    TC target

    Wow! That's nice!

    A very fine TC Hawken

That's a nice rifle, I've got one with wood like that, but not checkered. The ole boy I got it from worked in a gunshop back in the 70's, he said they ordered 50 Hawkens, and him, and the boss got to pick the best one's. I've seen a few other with nice stocks, but most are just plain wood.

    Refinished my GPR

Wow, that's a nice rifle! I'm starting to think I need to build me a GPR, what scares me is I've heard there quality has gone down hill a bit.

    Khaki pillow ticking

I've used the tan striped you speak of, don't remember exactly what thickens it was, but the blue striped ticking seemed to shoot better groups for me. So I went back and bought 4yds. of the blue ticking, that should last my lifetime.

    Old Knife

That knife was worn down from sharpening, you can tell by the way it tapers from the handle. My wife's granddad was a butcher for over 30 years, when he passed we cleaned out his house, and all his knives look like that. I wish now I would have kept some of them, but they went in the trash. I...

    oil for barrel after cleaning

Well, i guess I'm different, or cheap, cause I use olive oil. I've used it for years with never any problems, I wet the bore with it, and use a few dry patches to remove any excess oil! Then I wipe down the rest of the gun with it. For modern guns, all i use is a mix of marvel mystery oil, and...

    Glass bedding a ML ??

I built a CVA hawken, and I bedded the entire barrel length and tang with marine tex. That stuff is made for boat hull repair, but it's super tough, and I was planning on using it in all kinds of hunting weather. I have a New Englander that the barrel moved sided to side, so I used Acraglass...

    Hunting up a hunting gun.

I'd recommend a T/C Renegade flinter in .54, all the rifle you'll ever need, and cheap too! Basically would look like the one Alden posted.

    Sears Kentucky Rifle mod292

When you use the vice grips, use a small piece of leather on the jaws to protect the spring from scratches. It may not hurt the spring, but there's no need to risk ruining the mainspring.

    cva hawken 50 load

I also have a CVA kit rifle that I built, it shoots like dream with 70grs of Goex 2f,.490rb and walmart pillow ticking lubed with 50/50 ballistol, and water. That's a great target load, but for hunting I bump it up to 90grs. But 70gr will get the job done, I just like a little flatter shooting load.

    Getting started

A good capper is nice to have, beats trying to hold the can and not dropping it! The fun part of ML'n is you can make a lot of you're won stuff, I make my own range rods out of brass stock from Lowes. ML's are fun to shoot, you might also find young person, and let them shoot one and get them...

    Hawken build

Looks nice, what kinda barrel you using? Some day I'd like to build one for my dad, cause I sure love the one i built. Does CVA still offer those in kits.

    T/C Hawken Rusty Bore

I'm gona say that it don't look all that bad, I can still see the riflings, that one should clean up pretty good. I've seen a lot worse, as long as there's no pits in there it should be fine. To be honest that's one reason I won't buy a ML on GB, or anywhere else if I can't see the bore first...

    Sights on Backwards

Most pawnshops are ignorant when it comes to black powder guns, I was at one once and an employee called a T/C New Englander a civil war rifle,, wow!! :rotf:
  19. I

    tung oil for stock

Tung oil that you can buy from hardware store does have hardners in it, and yes it will hold up better in more humid climates. I did a shotgun with tungoil years ago, and it's impressed me as how well it's held up, cause that's one gun that gets a lot rough use.

    TC Hawken Kit finished (pics)

Wow,that's nice, you can also age the brass once you fire it. Just wipe the brass down with some dirty patches you clean the bore with,it will give it a nice patina look.
