    New Rifle, New Shooter

Both are good looking additions to your family. Although, it looks like you might need to shorten the length of pull on that new rifle. Little man might have a problem with it at it current size :shocked2:

New work on an old project.

Did you also engrave the bottom of the trigger guard as well?

New work on an old project.

Words cannot begin to describe what i feel when looking at this gun. Wow! I have a few scraps of firewood I'd love for you to work on and send back.

    The "Black Box"

Beautiful box! I love the way a "fix" to something we thought would work and look good often turns out to be just the thing to make something good great.

    How to make Hairpipe

I have been wanting to do this for quiet a while now and I can't seem to find a good tutorial on the subject. What methods have you used, what "machinery" would I need, what type of bone works best. I do prefer doing things "the way it was done in the day" so to speak. Any help or links to...

Because I fell in a creek......

Hmmm... Wondering how much one of those would cost me if the proud owner wished to make me one? I would be proud to carry that in my bag when I taught primitive skills to my local Boy Scouts. PM me please.

parts source for CVA rifle kits(no ebay)

Believe it or not Tony, I have an extra barrel in the closet that has been looking for a stock to call home! :haha:

Green Mountain Barrel cleanout screw/plug replacement

I think I'll take this advice. I have a second (or third or fourth) hand barrel that I can't get the screw loose on. i was going to drill it out, retap and install a new one. Thanks for this info. Now I plan on filing down the head since it's an eyesore from the stripped slot. Wonderful advice...

    New to traditional muzzleloaders

Welcome to the forum. I've only shot T7 through my .50 and have had no reason to change. I get my best shots with 55 grains. Get ready for a bunch of hard liners to tell you the only thing worth shooting is real black powder. I also use Bore Butter as a patch lube and usually only swab the bore...

    Skinner/Scalper w/sheath

Did the metal on this find already have that dark coloration? Is it painted or did you alter the metal in some way to loose the bright shiny steel often found on kitchen cutlery?

parts source for CVA rifle kits(no ebay)

You know, buying up a bunch of parts for three incomplete guns can get expensive. Being the nice guy that I am, I will gladly accept one of those from you saving you the trouble, expense, and the worry that comes from another unfinished project looming over you.

    Admiration

and just what time would that be? Thinking about all the work I'm going to have to do to try and make some of this stuff myself makes me hungry!

    Buffalo War Dagger

Another nice one Tony. I might have to try and make one of these as well. This one looks well within my novice reach.

    Coyote Knife

Thanks for all the info Tony. I think I might try my hand at making one of these. I am pretty good at making my own glues, since I enjoy teaching primitive skills to my Boy Scout Troop. I have the bones and I'm sure I can come up with an appropriate homemade dye to get that "well worn aged"...

    Coyote Knife

Thanks for the pics LaBonte. Those are some awesome knives. I have a couple of questions though. On the dagger in the third or fourth pic, How did you get that aged look and how is the skin attached? Is it glued, sewn at the seam, or pined on the opposite side as some of the others? How did...

    Coyote Knife

Since I asked Tony for advice it can be assumed that I would like to try and make one of these. I believe LaBonte was simply posting his works (and a pictorial of a work in progress) in this thread as nothing more than additional ideas since it would be assumed I was following this particular...

    Need some wood advice.

I have to agree with you stump. Good ole fashioned hand tools are almost always the way to go. I once made a series of holes in a chunk of flat stock that I fashioned from a tree limb with nothing more than a pocket knife. To make the holes, I fashioned a pump drill from a few tough vines, a...

    Need some wood advice.

Cynthia, by sandwiching your wood between two scraps, you are on the right path. If you are using a Forstner bit (flat bottomed bit) there is no need for a piece of wood on the top since it cuts a pilot hole and the edges of the hole first. This eliminates tear-out on the top side. This way you...
