    Lyman trade rifle touchole

A 1/16" off center touchhole should not bother the ignition of your rifle. Much more important to wipe fouling away and keep the flint sharp and sparking well. Can't help with your other problem.

Who likes TC cut agate flints?

Tried them, don't like them or the cost. I much prefer to use standard knapped flints and sharpen them when required.

    Is Radius-Groove Rifling the culprit?

This may be too obvious. but was the Testing on your 32 done on a windy day? Even light winds can have a huge influence on a small round ball.

Which Spotting Scope Would You Buy?

I have a Bosch scope that I bought at BJ's for $59 2 years ago. It has a crappy loose wobbly tri=pod so an upgrade here is advisable. But it works great for the range. If I was using it for spotting game I might want better.

    shock wave?

I was bowling once and a little kid rolled the ball and after a time the ball hit the head pin and STOPPED. I couldn't believe it. Swear it's true.

    Loading with the frizzen closed?

I agree, when you're in someone else's house follow their rules. Simple.

    Frzzen rebound

Great pictures Pletch, Thanks for doing that.

    Frzzen rebound

I'm building a rifle right now and the lock has/had a little rebound. The first one of this kind I've seen with that problem. When I build I place a wooden "fake flint" in the jaws to avoid wearing the frizzen. After some experimenting I found changing the shape of the wooden flint stopped the...

    White Lightening Touch Hole Removal

Be careful of going too large. Those tools are tapered and a too large drill hole may require the easy-out to go deeper than the width of the bore.

Revolutionary War Semi correct Long Rifle

The typical militia man of the Revolution era would likely be carrying a Long barreled, large bore smooth barrel fowling piece, that could also double as a musket, and could accept a bayonet. The southern rifles would have been long barrel with a minimum 50 cal. Swamped barrel, sliding wooden...

    Effective cleaning

I think one of the best tools you can get to clean your barrel properly is a "drop in bore light". Nobody seems to mention them. They are a little hard to located but they are out there. I don't know how you can tell if the bore is clean and shiny without one. I use warm water with a little...

    front sight trouble

It says age 42 on your stats. It happens to all of us and it doesn't get any better with age. My suggestion is if your front sights are getting hard to see you need a visit to the eye doctor. LOL :v

    Flintlock Light Loads?

I used to have a 45 Cal rifle that I shot .440 balls in, I used 70 grains of 3f black powder. By your statement that would be a light load nearly half the weight of the ball. It wasn't light at all. I would bet you could get a good performance with something like 30 grains.

    Wooden ramrods...

Not trying to be flippant here. But what does your country have to do with getting a ram rod made of Hickory. I usually buy my ramrods from a supplier like Track of the Wolf on one of the others. They sell hickory, they only cost about $3 ea. buy them in a small quantity and select the best of...

    Who's the flint guy ???

Check out Track of the Wolf. they have the flints listed next to a list of locks that use a specific size flint. Makes it easy for the uninitiated. Even if you don't buy their flints and go somewhere the size is still correct. Good reference.

    Getting Rid of Flinter's Flinch

I've been shooting flintlocks for about 40 years. I don't have a flinch and most times I see the muzzle flash that obliterates my view of the target. I still don't shoot worth a darn. I'm around the target and when I do hit the bull it's accidental. My problem is NOT flinch it's VISION, and I...

    Price of Goex ..??

The last Time I was in Rileys was probably about 30 years ago. That must have been when you bought that powder. You don't shoot much do you!

    One shooter so many problems!

I usually use spit for patch lube when at the range. I almost never swab the bore unless the loading gets tough. Usually only after a long pause, such as after a lunch break. Oil or greased patches are great for loading for hunting where you usually load once. But for the range where you are...

White Lightning touch hole liner & fouling

The first time at the range with one of my rifles I had a problem with the TH clogging. When I tried to pick it my pick did not fit in the TH. I called Chambers Locks and spoke to Jim. He told me that my WL liner was not one of his. Since he never patented the liner copies are out there, and...

    Re-tempering frizzen?

Sounds like you got it for a good price. Is your lock firing all the time reliably? Or are you just trying to make it faster? If it is working all or most of the time and not misfiring a lot, don't mess with it. I would not be concerned with the function unless I started to get frequent...
