What Method for Removing Broken Screw?

Finally getting around to building the Hawken pistol my father gave me for Christmas in 1981! Some time ago I attempted to fit the wedge plates and broke a brass screw off inside the walnut stock. The remnant is about 1/4" deep. What would be the best way to remove this broken screw without...

Powder Flask - Made In USA

Does anyone remember who made reproduction powder flasks in the good ole USA? Recently picked up a Colt style and is stamped as in the title and would like to know who might have made it for curiosities sake. TIA!

    Cap Debris In My Wrist

I had occasion to shoot one of my 13 gauge doubles today and the left hammer upon firing would shower my wrist with cap fragments, drawing tiny droplets of blood. Still stung even with my sleeves down. Any ideas as to why this is happening? On the other hand, the Pietta double did no such...

    Shotgun Bridles

Some time ago on this here forum a fella said that the bridles on the Pietta and Pedersoli shotguns were the same size. The Pietta's bridles are made from pot metal and on one of mine, they are both cracked. Taking this advice, I purchased 2 Pedersoli bridles from FlintlocksEtc and they do...

    Fixin' a dented barrel

Picked up a 13ga Pedersoli and noticed that one of the barrels is slightly dented at the muzzle. It only extends back about a 1/4 inch or so, probably fell down. How to fix it; assuming it wasn't done on purpose to make a good pattern??!! I was thinkin' about using a jeweler's ring mandrel...

    13 Gauge Wad Punch

Would a 3/4" punch from C. S. Osborne or Harbor Freight work or would that be too tight? I'll be using Durofelt FM1836H, same stuff we use in our sixguns which is 1/8" hard pure wool felt.

Every Once In A While The Patch...

...suggestion comes up with the loading of cap and ball revolvers. First time I ever heard of such a thing, I walked into a gun shop run by an old gunny that had a modest selection of antique firearms and accoutrements. He said he loaded each chamber with a patched round ball, I bought some...

    Beeswax and the Powder Flask

Has anyone ever coated the inside of their powder flask with beeswax? I've seen 40 and 150+ year old flasks that look fine and others that have split at the seam due to corrosion. I was thinking that the beeswax might prevent this since ours are always full or near so. Your thoughts? :idunno:

Which Hide and Tools for Ball Bags?

Rabbit, Goat, Sheep, Deer? What needle and size would you recommend then, a glover's needle instead of harness for example? Acquiring supplies for a first time go at it.

    From What School...

...would you fellas say a Pedersoli Kentucky/Pennsylvania or CVA Kentucky rifle, with the curved buttstock, originate from? What time period was this style popular and where? Thanks! James

.54 Big Bore CVA Mountain Rifles

A couple of questions for you fellas with these rifles. What type powder and charge did yours settle on? Which ball and if you cast your own, which mold and what size does it throw? What size patching, compressed thickness if you know?

    Pietta Doublegun Tang

Does anybody here know where one of these could be purchased or know of someone who could fabricate a new one? This part holds the back of the barrels to the stock and is secured by two screws, one machine and one wood on top. I do have the original which is near broke in half through the hole...

    Where'd The Ball Go?

We punch paper mostly but sometimes amble on over to the cowboy action range and shoot steel. Now hitting the steel knock down targets isn't a problem but the other day, we (my children and I) found it quite difficult to knock down the six round plates set up in a row. Even the RSO missed...

Ever Wonder How Much Your Flask Holds?

Well today I measured some flasks by volume with Grafs (Schuetzen) 3FG Black Powder. Not super precise, just leveled out in a measuring cup. First up was a CVA Powder Horn (ML032), the largest powder carrier size wise compared with the flasks. It held a measly 4 ounces. All Flasks are...

    Pocket Watches

Not sure if this is the correct forum for such but they do go in pockets so... How do you fellas clean the gunk out of the works of an original from the colonial through 19th century? What do you lube them with? I've got a friend with a Revolutionary War era pocket watch and he wants to clean...

    1858 Bolt

Replacing the bolt on a friend's Pietta Remington. The new bolt works as it should with no cylinder installed. However, it will not go to full cock (bolt comes up but doesn't stay) with the cylinder(s) installed. What part of the bolt may need some work?

    Pillow Ticking Strips

Graduating from Cap and Ball to Rifle and would like to cut patches at the muzzle. Checked around the more popular to me places for supplies and do not see strips available in .018... ok just found some on October Country by Ox-Yoke. Any other places? Are there different widths to be used...

    Big Bore Mountain Rifles

Are the Big Bore Mountain Rifles, the .54s and .58s in the same serial sequence as the .45s and .50s? Is my history correct in that the latter two came out in late 1975 and were first listed in the '76 catalog? When did the Big Bore rifles first show up?
