    59 yard flintlock squirrel

Great job on the video and hunt! The two jag idea is so simple and brilliant...could have used that idea a time or two, thanks for the tip. I hope you and yours continue to do more videos...very enjoyable. Thanks for sharing.

    Non - Tapered Barrels

Thanks for sharing the pics Birdwatcher. I am leaning more and more to a rear sight. This will more of a smooth rifle than fowler with my use. The only thing I will hunt with shot is turkey and our out-of-control squirrel population, but primarily this will be a deer and bear hunting gun. I'm...

    Non - Tapered Barrels

I just browsed the TVM website. Disgracefully they STILL make NO mention of their untapered barrels :cursing: When I bought mine I didn't even know to ask. If you go to the website and read the description about their fowler, it states that the barrel used is a "special straight barrel."...

TVM Fowler & .590 round ball

Birdwatcher, Thanks for the load info and video. That fowler seemed to be the ticket for that hog... I always thought a thicker patch was the way to go, but you seem to be doing just fine with a .010 patch. And yes, TVM was quite clear about the barrel on their fowler being...

TVM Fowler & .590 round ball

I wanna thank everyone for their responses. The combinations seem to be limitless. I'm not set up for now to cast my own rbs...that will come in time. I am really surprised by the number of folks who tell me that their accuracy is quite good with just a bare ball. So, when my smoothie comes...

TVM Fowler & .590 round ball

Good tip tenngun, thanks. Didn't realize I could get a test pack of rbs of different sizes. I'm gonna have my work cut out for me this summer. I'm trying to refrain from the "Hey guys, what's the best load for my smoothbore?" question. But, am looking for a good starting point. Seems like...

TVM Fowler & .590 round ball

Thanks hanshi. Just curious...is there any difference in your gun's accuracy between bare ball and patched rb that you can tell? This is gonna be a close distance deer gun (20-30 yds) til I can work out better accuracy at longer distances (60-75 yds) which I figure may take some time. Coming...

TVM Fowler & .590 round ball

Hello all, It has been a while since I have posted, but have been lurking for quite some time. I have finally placed an order for my smooth bore...20ga, dark coffee colored, antiqued steel, and 42" barrel! Matt says it should be ready late spring and I can hardly wait. I asked him to check...

    Getting ready for Turkey season

makeumsmoke, That is a great looking gun! I have spent the past couple days googling half-stock fowlers and and they are spectacular. If you don't mind, I hope you will share some pics when you have it finished...would love to see it! Enjoy taking it through the woods this spring.

    Jim Chambers English Sporting Rifle

TG, Nah...didn't think you were being critical at all...it's all good! Now, I just have to decide between .54 or .58!! :headslap: Slim-

    Jim Chambers English Sporting Rifle

TG, Sorry, that was my wrong choice of wording...I should have said "other" as opposed to "original." I forgot that it was described as one of the earlier Turvey ESRs in Chamber's description. My historical knowledge of these firearms is lacking but it's coming along slowly. I'm...

    Jim Chambers English Sporting Rifle

TG, I have developed an absolute love for the English Sporting Rifle over the past 2 years. Ideally, I wanted a half-stock version, but I figured I couldn't go wrong with a Chamber's kit. It doesn't seem to be a popular style of gun a lot of builders make....at least not that I could find...

    Jim Chambers English Sporting Rifle

Thanks for the advice on the barrel. I definitely want a swamped barrel...will have to see what weights they offer. Hunted the last two years with a straight barrel, and while I generally like a heavier rifle, I am looking forward to a more well-balanced firearm to carry through the woods.

    Jim Chambers English Sporting Rifle

Funny you and Dane should mention that Mark Silvers rifle as it was the 2nd on my list of wants. I imagine it would make a heck of a hunting rifle! Especially in .62cal. Just too many choices... Dane, thank you for the offer to build the rifle. I would like to see the pics of yours and when...

    Jim Chambers English Sporting Rifle

Dane, Thanks for the input! I will not be building this myself...that is something I plan to tackle later on down the road. If you don't mind I'd like to see how your rifle turned out, so any pics you can share would be appreciated. Which caliber did you build? Also...I was leaning towards...

    Jim Chambers English Sporting Rifle

Hello all! Well, after almost two years of lurking I thought I would finally ask a question. This is the year I will be moving forward on getting my first flintlock. I really love the English Sporting Rifles and have been looking at the one Jim Chambers offers. I have heard nothing but good...
