    Colt Navy 1851 Question

    1) If it is in fact an original 1851, clean it and display it. 2) If it's a repro with sentimental value, also clean it and display it. 3)Buy a new repro and shoot the heck out of it and create your own 1851 with your sentimental value. Good shooting! Bob

Son in law's poor ignition on Lyman Great Planes 50 cal percussion

The Lyman has a patent breech and you probably are not cleaning good enough. You can soak the end of the barrel to loosen up the crud then use a .30 caliber or smaller brush to clean up the patent breech. You may need to grind down a breech face scrapper to get in to clean the patent breech. I...

    IAB Sharps Gardone

I would pass on it at any price. The best one, in my opinion is the Shiloh Sharps in .54 caliber. Also good is the Pedersoli, with some work so there is little or no gas cutting and the block works smoothly. Check the n-ssa.org site for more info.

TC Big Boar 58 cal PDF owners' manual

SDSmlf You are confusing the two-consumers and businesses and mixing in stakeholders. You have made the proverbial mountain out of a mole hill. I stand by my original statement of "Selling T/C to S & W was of no benefit to shooters".

TC Big Boar 58 cal PDF owners' manual

Learn to read and comprehend. Nothing I said was about a BUSINESS, just an end user (SHOOTER).

TC Big Boar 58 cal PDF owners' manual

As I said, the sale is of no benefit to SHOOTERS. I said nothing concerning business. Consumers are the end users of any product and should be considered in all business decisions. "Nor should it be"-you must be kidding.

    Nipple wrench

Try TOTW for a wrench. If it fits well, then purchase at least one or two more. Cheap insurance.

Buying my son a Flintlock for Christams

I would go with a .50 caliber Thompson Center Hawken flintlock to START WITH! I'm sure your son will get more muzzleloaders as time goes on and he can get a .54 and .45 caliber and so on. TOTW (Track of the Wolf) has good flints and Jerry at Powder Inc. usually carries a lot of BP at...

Well it happened, broke my first ramrod.......

I only use Delrin rods for loading, never fiberglass. The fiberglass get worn from use and the strands get into your palm. Ask me how I know. Wood ramrods only for show.

    Spare Cylinders?

First off, only use a cylinder designed for the brand revolver you have as they are different brand to brand. Gunsmiths specializing in BP guns should be able to help you.

    Dried lube on Minnie balls?

Hot water and a small (acid brush) should do. Don't apply fresh lube until you're going to go shooting. This happened to me with SPG on RCBS pills for my Zouave. If the old lube will not come off, just put a dab of Crisco in the base of the bullet just prior to shooting. Ask me how I know! Bob

    T/C Hawken Rifle Changes

I think most shot about the same, some better than others, but changes were probably done to appease the bean counters. Sharon and a couple others made barrels early on. Load development has to play the big role.
