Dropped the hammer on a deer......

It happens to all of us. Last year I spent a week hunting javelina here in Southern Arizona. Finally stalked up on one with his nose buried in the brush. He gave me all day to line up the shot from 30 yards with my hawken rifle. Full cock, set trigger, breathe, squeeze, *POP* no *BOOM*. Off the...

    Traditions Crokett help needed

Ace Hardware is where its at. I bought a nicely used TC Hawken a few years back. It had a cracked cleanout screw. TC told me they don't make them that way anymore and that I would need to send the barrel to them. By chance I decided to stop by Ace and look around. Turned out it was a simple set...

    Really basic question about loading

It's called a patch box. Put little doo-dads in there that may be helpful. A few balls, patches, spare nipple, some peppermint candy, your tabackee! :)

    Really basic question about loading

I was taught to always leave the hammer down when loading. Half-cocking the hammer may allow oxygen into the barrel and could feed an ember from the previous shot. I'm not saying you're wrong to load with the hammer half cocked. I think this may also be one of those things that have many...

How do I get rid of rust in barrel?

I'll just chime in and say are you sure its rust? I've seen some barrels that someone used way too much lube (bore-butter type stuff) and swab a VERY hot barrel with it. The lube just sort of melts, drains to the bottom and cruds up. It can look a lot like rust. Just don't want you to go...

    Crockett rifle

I don't own one myself (yet), but I just got back from a hunting trip with my Uncle and he let me carry his crockett. I was very impressed with the accuracy of it. So were the two grouse I ate later that evening. ;) I'm now in the market for one. Great small game gun.

    Problems with T/C hawkens

Wish I could help you in regards to the caliber of your gun. I own a .50 cal T/C Hawken and have never been happier. I've shot .490 PRB, .495 PRB, .490 maxibullets, and .490 conicals without issue. Do you want to shoot conicals or PRB? What size patches are you using with those round balls?

    Half-Cock Position

My TC Hawken halfcocks the same....barely off the nipple. I also consider it a "feature" for when I'm out trekking through the desert. :)

    I'm an idiot!!

So what club are you in if you just spend an hour trying to pull a "phantom ball"? :) Pop and I went shooting. He's sitting one bench over. Loaded his powder from a flask with a 60gr attached spout. Loaded the bullet (enfield carbine), put on the cap...cocked the hammer...pulled the trigger...

    First Shots

Hello! Great deal you got on that T/C! In regards to your question about whether or not it's loaded... If you have a bore light or even a flashlight, simply remove the nipple, shine the light into the nipple hole while looking down the barrel. If you see light, you're clear. Once you know it's...
