    1851 Fantasy Frame Navy

Theoretically...The frame on an 1851 Colt Navy in .44 cal is really a 1860 with a Navy barrel or front end assembly right? So would an 1860 barrel fit on my frame if it was made by the same manufacturer :hmm:

    EIG 1851 Brasser

Just picked up an 1851 Navy brass frame from a co-worker today for $60.00. Its in excellent condition. I know that EIG is/was the importer and says made in Italy. Aside from the proof marks all over it, there is no manufacturer's name. Im not too saavy at posting pics. Does anybody know anything...

    1851 Colt Sheriff .44

Just got the Pietta 1851 Colt Navy .44 steel frame. Although it is a fantasy gun, it is totally awesome! Sam Colt should have made this gun! with its 4.9" barrel and .44 cal, it would have sold like hot cakes IMHO! Not too many importers carry the steel frame version. EMF is out of stock, Dixie...

    .45 Cal Roundball Confusion

Can somebody please explain why .45 cal roundballs are .440-.445 in diameter and .44 cal roundballs (ie BP revolvers)are .451-.457? To make matters worse Hornady labels their .457 roundballs as 45 CAL on the box :headslap: This is and has always been confusing especially to newcomers to the...

    Loss of accuracy/confidence

Earlier this year before the season I took my new Green Mtn .54 cal to our hunting club range. Got 'er sighted in at 50yds and 100yds. I was surprised that it hit at almost the same spot at both ranges. 90grs of FFg, 1:70 twist .535 RB. Killed a small Spike Buck a few weeks later in failing...

    T/C Hawken Concept

In the early seventies if I were to recreate the Hawken rifle, why would I make it look incredibly like the Frederick Thiede rifle circa 1865? Zonie closed the post of some really great information. Not trying to overide a moderator in no means. Just curious as to why? If I were trying to...

    Southern Deer-The "Myth"

Just wanted to bring up a very interesting topic, and dont want to start WWIII! Back when I was serving in the U.S. Marine Corps, I was fortunate to meet many people from all over the country. Living in open style barracks, we had a Lakota Sioux, an a guy from Minnesota with an extremely Nordic...

    Sling for Early Virginia

Would a Jager type sling setup be appropriate for an early Virginia rifle? I know these rifles were influenced by Germanic Yagers with the sliding patch boxes and all. Slings are mighty handy for hunting purposes! Thanks! Dave.

    Leman Questions

I want to put together a Leman trade rifle and have been studying them on the web. I have not seen any original Lemans with a single trigger except smoothbore trade guns, most people say single triggers were more common except on special ordered sporters. The companies that sell the kits also...

    TVM Southern

On TVM's site if you click on The Southern rifle, the picture that appears at the top of the screen looks a whole lot like their Tennessee rifle. If you move the cursor over the picture or click on it, the rifle becomes a completely different rifle. The picture shown is not a "poor boy" either...

    Ive almost made it!

Well I have almost made it to the end of my first muzzleloader only hunting season. The rut is about to kick-in in the next couple of weeks here in Alabama. TVM or TOTW?

For a newbie what do you guys like or dislike about kits from these two companies? I have my heart set on a Leman Trade Rifle. I like the simplicity of the single trigger and trigger guard on the TOTW rifle plus they will cut it down to 32" for me. This will be my first build, so I plan on...
